I can not stream HD channels to my client PC. Standard definition channels stream fine. I have been able to successfully stream HD channels using this same server/client setup using DVB Dream. I get a black screen with no audio or video. Logs attached.

I cant see any obvious sign of errors in those logs. If you copy the same file to a local drive on the client, can you play the file from the Video Library?

I should have been more clear - I was referring to streaming live HD channels from the DVB-S tuner on my server. If I record a HD show to a file wouldn't the format be different than the live streaming format? Do you mean record a HD show and then copy the recording to a local folder and play?

No, its the same. Behind the scenes timeshift mode is a recording that gets played.

OK that definitely shed some more light on the problem - my HD recordings are all 0 bytes! This has got to be related to my HD tuning problem described here (I have to select a HD channel and then return to the EPG and select it again in order to watch it)?

This problem occurs despite trying different codecs, and DVB Dream does not have the problem on this same system. I am guessing this must be GBPVR, MDAPI, or a setting in either of the two?

Well my troubleshooting continues...

To my surprise I discovered my HD channels use the selected MPEG-2 decoder for playback - NOT the selected H.264 codec. Is this correct?

I tried an unencrypted HD channel with MDAPI disabled but still had the same behavior - have to exit to EPG and reselect the channel for it to work.

So my current theory - this is an initialization problem with HD channels. Somewhere there must be a wait setting to allow the BDA device to start and tune a channel and this default setting is not quite long enough for initially tuning HD channels. Somehow DVB Dream uses a different default initial wait setting which works consistently for both SD and HD channels.

Comments???

I'm not 100% sure what format HD you're using there, but if its H.264, these are always recorded to .ts files, and these are not streamable with GB-PVR's client server streaming mode. It is possible to watch .ts files via file sharing mode though.
