After recording a movie that I would like to keep I would prefer to have it only shown in MyVideos (with all the poster and desciption info) and not in xRecord any more. The Archive-function will move the video to my video root directory so it wont be seen by MyVideos. The Export function does not really do anything for me (don´t what it is supposed to do).
At the moment my workaround is archive it from xRecord and manually re-create the folder and move the mpeg to the folder (not really handy).

Am I only doing something wrong or does nobody else need this function?
I prefer not to have the shows/movies I want to keep shown in xRecord so it is easier to separate from the stuff I just watch once and delete.

Anybody got an idea?

I am confused.

Please help me clarify. You have a show you recorded and it is shown in the ready box in xrecord. You want it to only appear in my videos.

The ready box shows all shows in the gbpvr database. If you do not want it to appear there the only way to do it is remove it from the database. Which is what the archive function does.

Export takes the information in the gbpvr database show title, subtitle, dates, description, channel etc.... and exports it to a file right next to the mpeg called .dat, that way you maintain all of that information when you move the file around.

would the solution be to create an archive folder in xrecord so you can pick a different location, today we default to the first video drive. One option if you do not use xrecords videos is to specify the same directory that you manually create it in so it will be archived there. Ready will not see it but videos will.

That is why we have a video section.

Hope that helps.

once the info is in the my videos database (which is added when you either browse to that file in my videos, or just play the file from anywhere in gbpvr) you can move this file to anywhere you like (aslong as you keep it the same name) and the info will be saved. but theres no easy way of moving a file from say D:\my recordings\show\show.mpg to D:\my videos\show\show.mpg, which is what you need to do to remove it from the list in xrecord/recordings (well its one of the ways).

thanks for the replies first.
@jorm:
what the archive function does on my configuration is to move the recording from E:\Videos\Friends\Friends_XXXX.mpg to the root E:\Videos\Friends_XXXX.mpg and it wont show up in xRecord (because it was deleted from the db?). Is that how it is intended to be? And is there a way of setting up a different path for archived shows (eg. E:\Archive\Wink? And will the mpeg be stored there directely or with the folder it was in before?

@reven:
right now it will not show up in MyVideos after archive as it seems MyVideos is only looking for FOLDERS in the dirctory I set it up to (E:\Videos) but not for mpegs.
If now set up MyVideos with a second directory E:\Archive\ will it find the shows or will it need the respective subdirs?

Your recording directory and your xvideo path 1 are both pointing to e:\videos. So what is why it moves it to e:\videos.

Archive exports the database and moves it over to the xvideo path 1. Some people want use it.

correct.

currently it will copy it without the folder, but I can change that. As for the e:\archive. change the path 1 to e:\archive
and path 2 can be e:\videos. And it will archive to e:\archive and still you can access your e:\videos.

It sounds like you are basicly running the same set up as I am.
I use XRecord for keeping track of current recording, deleteing and archiving files . I use MyVideo for my "movies" I want to save. I do not use the Video funtion in XRecord at all.
I am at work so I am going off memory here.
What I did is in XRecord I set "Video Path 1" to D:\My Movies.  This path is currently that XRecord uses for the Videos option and Archiving. It does not use it for Ready.
Then in MyVideos set the path to D:\My Movies

well that helped a lot. know I have a better understanding of how archive works. when I get home I will do some testing and see if it is really necessary to have the mpegs in related folders for MyVideos to see them. If that is so it would definitely help to let archive also move the folder but let me test and will post! [Image: smile.gif]

You might want to look at the video archive plug-in. It will archive files and will copy the comskip files, image files and folder image, if present. Like the MyVideos plug-in it stores the file description in its database and once the information is in the database you can move the file anywhere and it will display properly.

I finally got everthing set up properly but now I am running into a weird behavior :
if I delete the old path to E:\Videos in MyVideos Plugin GBPVR wont start. gbpvr.exe is visible in processes of the tasklist and is cumulating up to more than 1gb of memory but will never really start. After killing the process and re-entering the old path in MyVideos (aside from the new path E:\Archive) it will start just fine.
I was assuming MyVideos is trying to find recordings as the where stored in MyDatabase.mdb and deleted all entries there pointing to E:\Videos but it still only works, if I keep the path to E:\Videos in MyVideos config.

I can live with that but it might be something reven wants to take a look at as it might cause problems with MyVideos once you cange paths or have extra HD installed later and so on.

my videos doesnt check to see if any files exist when it loads, it just uses relative filenames, so for D:\my videos\tv shows\enterprise\season 2\enterprise - 2x02 - carbon creek.avi, it is just stored in the database as enterprise - 2x02 - carbon creak.avi. so you can move the files around and keep the info. it does have a table called "Known Locations" which keeps absolute filenames, but these are only checked when you enter an actor (and it finds the movies they are in).
