Hey sub,

I just noticed today that when I use the TS Mux my Live pre-play delay (ms) is not honored when pausing Live TV.

Here is the log snippets
TS Mux:
Code:
2008-09-24 17:29:34.015 VERBOSE Preferred BDA Multiplexer: TS Mux ... 2008-09-24 17:29:42.234 INFO DirectShowPlayerBase::playVideoFile(D:\Live TV\Temp\Almanac Gardener_2_20080924_17001730.ts) 2008-09-24 17:29:42.234 VERBOSE File already in use - probably still recording 2008-09-24 17:29:42.234 VERBOSE waited: 0 (0 - 1222291782) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:42.328 VERBOSE waited: 0 (0 - 1222291782) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:42.437 VERBOSE waited: 0 (0 - 1222291782) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:42.531 VERBOSE waited: 0 (0 - 1222291782) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:42.640 VERBOSE waited: 0 (0 - 1222291782) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:42.734 VERBOSE waited: 0 (0 - 1222291782) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:42.843 VERBOSE waited: 0 (0 - 1222291782) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:42.937 VERBOSE waited: 0 (0 - 1222291782) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:43.046 VERBOSE waited: 1 (0 - 1222291783) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:43.140 VERBOSE waited: 1 (0 - 1222291783) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:43.234 VERBOSE waited: 1 (0 - 1222291783) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:43.343 VERBOSE waited: 1 (0 - 1222291783) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:43.437 VERBOSE waited: 1 (0 - 1222291783) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:43.546 VERBOSE waited: 1 (0 - 1222291783) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:43.640 VERBOSE waited: 1 (0 - 1222291783) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:43.750 VERBOSE waited: 1 (0 - 1222291783) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:43.843 VERBOSE waited: 1 (0 - 1222291783) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:43.953 VERBOSE waited: 1 (0 - 1222291783) filesize: 0 ... 2008-09-24 17:29:53.921 VERBOSE waited: 11 (0 - 1222291793) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:29:54.015 ERROR DirectShowHelperVMR9::playFile() - Waited ten seconds, and file size is still zero!!!
Then it fails and Exits the TV mode back to the main screen.

EDIT: Same Problem Using MainConcept

Full TS honors the sleep timer
Code:
2008-09-24 17:50:36.609 VERBOSE Preferred BDA Multiplexer: Full TS ... 2008-09-24 17:50:45.187 INFO DirectShowPlayerBase::playVideoFile(D:\Live TV\Temp\Smart Gardening_2_20080924_17301800.ts) 2008-09-24 17:50:45.187 VERBOSE File already in use - probably still recording 2008-09-24 17:50:45.187 VERBOSE waited: 0 (0 - 1222293045) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:50:45.296 VERBOSE waited: 0 (0 - 1222293045) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:50:45.296 VERBOSE Sleeping for 4000ms to give file a chance to grow

DVR-MS:
Code:
2008-09-24 17:34:17.171 VERBOSE Preferred BDA Multiplexer: Microsoft DVR-MS ... 2008-09-24 17:34:25.031 INFO DirectShowPlayerBase::playVideoFile(D:\Live TV\Temp\Smart Gardening_2_20080924_17301800.dvr-ms) 2008-09-24 17:34:25.031 VERBOSE File already in use - probably still recording 2008-09-24 17:34:25.046 VERBOSE waited: 0 (0 - 1222292065) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:34:25.140 VERBOSE waited: 0 (0 - 1222292065) filesize: 0 2008-09-24 17:34:25.140 VERBOSE Sleeping for 4000ms to give file a chance to grow

Works fine.

full logs of TS Mux and DVR-MS test attached. Is this expected? Should TS Mux not be given the same sleep timer?

Thanks,
Craig

Something interesting I noticed. When I run the MuxChecker I see

Code:
NO MULTIPLEXER FILTERS WHERE FOUND ON YOUR MACHINE. GB-PVR will not function correctly unless you have WinXP SP1 or higher, which has a built-in DVR-MS mux filter.

So...why does GBPVR provide TS Mux/Full if I don't have the Muxer. Does this seem to be the reason why things wouldn't work?

I installed the ATI Muxer and it works for me... :confused:

The Mux Checker utility only checks for the 3rd party Cyberlink and ATI mux. The TS Mux and Full TS muxes are built in.

Hmm...so any guess as to why TS Mux and MainConcept fail in this way? As it appears to me that pvrx2 is not honoring the sleep timer. I certainly could be misinterpreting the logs.

I cant really see what you mean about not honoring the sleep timer, but when you press pause does the buffer file get created (in this case D:\Live TV\Temp\Almanac Gardener_2_20080924_17001730.ts), and does it seem to be growing?

What I mean is, that when it works correctly I see this line
Code:
2008-09-24 17:34:25.140 VERBOSE Sleeping for 4000ms to give file a chance to grow

When it fails I don't see this.

That value appears to correspond to the Live TV pre-play delay.

It'll only bother to do the pre-play delay if the file is actually created in the 10 or seconds it waits. If there is no file in that time, waiting an extra 4 seconds isnt going to help.

There is a file with the name expected...and the Status shows it recording, but there is no data.

So we need to look into why those muxers do not create data then. I guess we would focus on TS mux then...

My end goal is to be able to watch TV, timeshift TV, and record TV then remove commercials and recode to high quality x264. So far TS mux and some third party tools allow me to do this without losing A-V Sync.

Ignoring timeshift initially, can you record on these channels?

Hmm... :confused: I have found that the one channel I was testing with (gah I hate when that happens) is the only one that doesn't timeshift or record using TS Mux. (with DVR-MS it works fine)

I guess you would need a full TS for the PMT that this channel is on to debug, correct? The strange thing is that I am able to record from the other sub channels.

Perhaps I am the only one who is trying to use the TS Mux BDA Multiplexer. If the ATI one works for me for all my needs then perhaps we won't need to look into this deeply. Just let me know what you think would be best. It seems to me that something may be slightly off with this stream which is causing this failure...but which failure can be overcome by the dvr-ms multiplexer and it seems by the ATI multiplexer. I just need to see if I can do the cutting/transcoding perfectly with ATI, that is the real reason I have been trying other multiplexers is to see what my best option for cutting and transcoding is.
