Roku Open Sourcing Software

I ran across a link to this article posted on Slashdot today about Roku open sourcing their software:

Assuming the open sourced software provides easy access to the display hardware, this might make a nice alternative GBPVR platform (especially at that $99 pricepoint). Have to wait and see what exactly the software is capable of though :-)

I was discussing a related post http://blog.wired.com/business/2008/09/r...ill-b.html with the lead developer of the mvpmc project on the weekend, it certainly is interesting and it depends on what they want to open up. He already has one, but until sometime can do more than connect in protected modes it is really a brick outside the US.

Rokulabs have had this source available for a while http://www.roku.com/community/gpl_nfp.php and that is not very useful.
