Hi, I have several recurring recordings set up (eg one which is monday-friday at 7pm every week, and another at 9pm every thursday). I've just found that recordings for the last two days have not happened and I don't know why.
There is no 'failed' recording in the recent recordings list; no mention of the failed recordings anywhere. [Sub said the only time a recording is listed as 'failed' (eg) under recent recordings is if the device was busy; a bit grim if the recording failed for some other reason (how am I meant to know why).]

The only factor I can think of which may have caused this is that I get my epg via xml import (rather than broadcast) and my PC had been 'offline' for over a week, so the epg was out of date. But I cannot see why this would matter because the recordings-recurring list shows the time of the recording, channel and name, so why would it matter if the epg data is current or not? It's irrelevant.

Any ideas?

heh. why on earth...??? As far as I can see the pending recordings is already showing all the details that are needed to make a recording regardless of the epg data.

The only use I can see of looking at the epg data is to cancel a recording once the epg suggests that the program being regularly recorded is no longer occurring in that timeslot. But that would be grim if the series was only being interrupted for a temporary day or two and resumed soon after... Sad

im sure sub will explain the logic but from my under standing it still looks for the name and adjusts to the exact length of time within the time slot etc
rather than just recording for a specific time and date as you are thinking it should work

i agree with stustunz. Unlike an old fashioned video where you set the time and it blindly recorded that time. GBPVR will see when the program is and move the time according to the start time/end time.

So yes it relies on the EPG. If you didn' want the epg, you could see if you can schedule a manual recording recurring, but I don't think you can.

You can schedule recurring manual recordings, I have a bunch of these set up to capture groups of shows that shift times around depending on football game schedules.

However, manual recordings aren't tied to any EPG data, so if you want that you'll have to do what I do: Edit out the video you want, and use MpegImport or VidImport. I followup by manual database edits to change the recordings to actual EPG entries, but don't recommend it unless you want to get your hands dirty. It isn't hard, but it does require decent SQLite administration software.

Yep, the guys above are correct. No listings = no new recordings scheduled. You can use manual recordings if you're not going to have listings though.

The original post said he'd been offline for over a week - it wasn't clear to me whether he had run out of data yet or not. I would not expect GBPVR to record a show if the EPG had run out of data (which for me would take about 11-13 days), but I assume that the EPG just being "out of date" (as in 8-9 days old) would not prevent a recurring recording that appears in the remaining EPG data from being recorded. I also assume that when the EPG was updated, it would pick up all the scheduled recordings in the new data.

It would have only been a problem if he had no listings.

Here in NZ, where time_lord is too, I dont think we have any epg sources that give more than 7 days of listings, so I'm working on the assumption he has no listings.

That makes sense. I didn't know NZ listings are usually 7 days. I'm accustomed to the 11-13 days of data that we get in the U.S.
