As it is now, a "this timeslot" scheduled recording will record any episode of that show that happens within +/- 2 hours of the scheduled time, without regard to the day of the week. See

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=4766

There are some who would prefer an option for the timeslot to be limited to the specific day, i.e. Monday at 6.

That way, scheduling a show at 6 on Monday would not also schedule the same show (regardless of whether it's the same episode) if it were to be on at 8 on Wednesday.

Perhaps a weekday option, as well?

I am sure you already know. The CDK Scheduler can do this for you and has a user interface inside xrecord.

Yeah, I'm just a little flustered by having to do a plugin for every little thing, it seems. I guess I'm a little too "commercial" in my thinking. As a user, it makes sense to me for this to be a core feature, not something to find, add, and configure. I personally don't like how the timeslot works. If this were a program to purchase, that would turn me away from it. Sub was pretty firm when he said it's this way because he wants it to be.

To show where I'm coming from, I've been a Snapstream user for a little over a year now, and found GBPVR when I was investigating a MediaMVP. Snapstream has some things I like a LOT better than GBPVR, including streaming to the network and recurring scheduling (especially the ability to get new shows only), but their MVP support is non-existent. What there is for it is a project in very early development, and GBPVR's support is far superior. Since using the PVR on the TV through the MediaMVP is my only reason for having a PVR on my PC, that makes GBPVR the more desirable product, but I feel that I'm settling for less to get the MVP support. OTOH, the price is perfect!!!!

This is true. Unlike with "commercial" products, GB-PVR users are free to choose whether or not they want to make a donation to keep the project going.

Dont worry, I understand where you're coming from, and I agree that it should be part of the core product. Unfortunately everyone expects things to work a different way, and wants different features. Most people have been happy with the timeslot recording since it was introduced more than a year ago, with very few comments requesting change.

I will be revamping the recording screen and behind-the-scenes plumbing to make things more flexible. This may or may not be included in the next release, it depends what else pops up.

Of course sub, you could always absorb CDK Scheduler or provide built in support for it. Smile

I dont really know anything about the CDK Scheduler, but I'll have a look when I find a few spare minutes. Regardless of whether I use this, or roll my own, the hardest bit is always developing the screens to go with it (which I definitely want to have - probably just updated versions of the existing "record" popups). I appreciate the offer though.

sub, the basic front-end of CDKscheduler looks very similar to what you have now. When you get a chance you should look at XRecord's Scheduler- the front-end to CDK.

The source for the screens are available sub if you want them from xrecord. Smile

plugins are the developers way of helping sub out with this project. So that is why you see so many plugins and tools. We enjoy writing them and helping sub out. Sub is always welcome to include any of the tools in the core product if he wants or thinks it is a good fit. In the mean time we just keep comming up with ideas.

I still want to provide a configuration listener interface for the settings plugin that I will see if sub wants to include. Then I can build a configuration tool that will allow you to configure the plugins inside of gbpvr. I know sub likes the config tool, but maybe he will include it. After all different users use it differently.

wfooshee,

download rectracker, it gives you that functionality.

I like it better than commercial apps, I would never be able to write such extensions to a commerical app. Does tivo let you check the news? Or get theater listings? Email??? Gbpvr rocks!
