the US15W chipset has a hardware decoder capable of 1080i playback.

ahh, but the g945 can do 1080i with evr just fine...
tho i do like that msi box as a set-'back'-box to bolt up to the back of your flat screen..Wink
one would think it's price is nominal with the tight integration and low part count, probably won't make it to retail markets so not much as far as feedback or real world reviews.. even has vc1 etc..curious where you got 1080i spec from..

a note on the new g45 as a gbpvr win front end, almost 0 dxva1 accelleration! all of it is dxva2, meaning Vista only!  now i have to learn how to prune vista of it's uselessnesses....lol
only way to get any accell in xp is use evr, and it has it's quirks in xp..
[but looks fabulous Smile]

double checked with dxvachecker and it confirms my suspicions...
will post results in a few..

Martin, what needed a 3.0g cpu? xbmc? or xbmc with emulation? sounds like not giving any accelleration..[or it's assuming you'll have none]
puzzled as to why they would need so much cpu...i've also got a e7200.

notice the lack of dxva1 stuff on the g45...Sad
tho it does have some, i'll have too see how i can access it, currently only evr seems accelled at all..

@fe2o3 thanks, the US15W chipset does look interesting so I think in a few year we will see 1080p on the atom.

@pBS Those 3.0 Mhz specs came from the xbmc for linux forums. I had ordered the E8200 myself. I wanted VT. I think Vista is great for multi media, and now would never recommend XP. Many Win 98 users complained for years after 2000 came out, it's the same thing.

Wow, 3.0 MHz. I think my first 486DX2 processor ran at 66 MHz. :p

I guess I shouldn't post before my first coffee! My first clone was probably in that range though, I remember upgrading to an 8 Mhz AT that seemed like a speed demon.

i was just askin cuz did they mean c2d 3.0? or pentium 4 3.0? or pentium dual core 3.0?
all huge differences in speed...
the E7200 is quite speedy and at the top of that list, not many 3.0+ c2d's out there...
just seems like it would be extremely limiting...
[even a c2d 1.8 beats a p4 3.0]

saw a couple posts there on xbmc that mentioned around 2ghz c2d as i would expect...
a p4 3.0 is usual spec for software decode, which is actually pretty slow compared to modern stuff..

The link I'm following now is http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36067. I am hoping to lower the processor cost. It doesn't make sense to buy a processor that is more than a PCH.

By the looks of it, that C2D 3.0 GHz requirement is for Blu-ray quality 1080p x264 videos. For simple 720p/1080i MPEG2, I reckon even the lowest Celeron Dual-Core would be sufficient.
