I just bought a PVR-500 mce and it's on it's way to me.

I currently have a PVR-150 that I'd like to keep along with the PVR-500. My motherboard is an Asus M2NPV-VM with two pci slots so that should be possible.

What do I need to do to use the new card once it arrives? Install it and reinstall the driver? Rerun the GBPVR config? Or ???

Thanks!

Can't wait till it gets here - one tuner just aint enough! Big Grin

I think PVR-500 will recognize PVR-150 driver and will install the driver itself. You have to go to config and add two capture cards for PVR500. Make sure that you name your capture #2 and #3 for PVR-500.

Cool! I'll just drop it in and see what happens!

Thanks ReplayTv! Smile

Can't wait for it to arrive . . . I'm actually kinda thinking of replacing the PVR-150 with another 500 (my cable co says they will continue analog basic cable indefinitely after 2/09 - in fact it's a selling point in their commercials right now, for what that's worth).

Take CAre,

In my area, Cox is saying they'll carry analog for about 2-3 years and say it's because a majority of their customers are 'poor' and can't afford new tv's. Heck, if they were really poor, they wouldn't be able to pay for cable!
Anyway, most of the cable companies in the states are saying roughly the same thing. But you might want to try one of the newer Analog/ATSC/QAM tuners. The HD stuff looks great with GBPVR.

I AM poor so I don't have an HD capable TV, just an old Toshiba 27" with a SVHS input.

I kicked around a hybrid tuner card, but decided to go with the PVR-500 as it's tried and true and gives me another tuner input.

Around here Charter is not giving any time line, they are basically saying "for the forseeable future" they will continue analog basic service and they are using it as a promotional tool. We're a small town with lots of older retired people . . . the ones who vote and stuff, so I don't think Charter would be dumb enough to switch off analog anytime soon after they have been so heavily promoting they are keeping it.

Hopefully in the future the basic tier will just move to clear qam and it'll be a simple matter of installing a qam tuner card and I'll be back in business, if not maybe by then I'll win the lottery and have the cash to build a super duper new HD capable HTPC!

I'm not going to worry about it too much - just enjoy what I have for now!

Take Care,

Steve

The card arrived today and works great! Smile

I only had one little snag - it has an FM radio on it so I choose PVR-500 w/FM for both tuners -> that doesn't work, it wont see the second tuner!

I ran this tool:
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FAQ/DeviceTypeCheck

and then just configed the tuners to match.

Nothing like 3 tuners! I went through the guide and chose everything I could possibly want and then hit conflicts and it gave me good news! Smile
