mouse controls v1.2.13

I cant seem to be able to use the mouse to operate the onscreen controls while watching recordings. The keyboard controls work fine, just the mouse is inoperative, except maybe I think the mouse wheel will change channels. Is this feature a thing of the past or is my setup bogus. If it is not currently supported, is there an add-on remote that I could get(preferably RF so I dont have to worry about an IR receiver).

This is known to happen if you're using the Overlay video renderer. Other video renderer options should work fine though.

Now this is a total noob question here, but what are the advantages of using different renderer? I always used overlay because it seemed to give me the smoothest playback most consistently. I just upgraded my PC. I have a AMD X2 4600+, onboard SDPIF, with 2 GB on the motherboard and a Diamond(ATI chipset) HD 3650 PCIe x16 card with 1GB of RAM. What renderer should I be using? I had to cut the fan wires and scale the fan down to 7V because the fan on the video card isn't variable speed, or even on/off and the fan was very noisy at 12V. If I stress the card too much, maybe it will melt? Only one way to find out.
