I recently upgraded from the old gbpvr.exe to pvrx2.exe (GB-PVR v1.2.13). I have been using GB-PVR to record programmes by remote control while I am away from home for several months at a time. To do this I have been using LogMeIn (http://www.logmein.com) to remotely control a computer at home. This has worked pretty successfully for more than a year.

Having now upgraded to v1.2.13 I have hit a problem. It works fine while I am using the computer directly, but by remote control when I open PVRX2 I see the outline of the window but no content. If I remotely control the computer from another computer in the same room I can see that the display is correct on the 'home' computer but an empty window on the 'remote' computer. This did not happen with my old installation of GB-PVR using the default skin. I am using the 'blue' skin but I have also tried Community3 and ContourHC without success. Can somebody suggest what is happening and how I can resolve the problem?

Have you tried RemoteDesktop or VNC just to see if it is some incompatability with the new version of gbpvr and whatever protocol logmein uses? Actually is there any reason you are using this product vs the free ones I mentioned? I just don't know anything about logmein.

I'm not really up with the technical names and details, but PVRX2 displays in a completely different way to the old GBPVR, so I'm not surprised that the graphics aren't passed over a remote control interface (I had to buy a new graphics card for my client!)
However GBPVR/PVRX2 comes with a built in web admin to allow you to schedule / record / stream programs with out any remote control software at all. This might be your best solution.
You need to enable webadmin in config, and open port 7647 on your router. You'll also need vlc installed and port 7648 open if you want to do the streaming part.

If you want to try and get your old method working maybe try changing the video renderer (vmr9/evr/overlay), probably overlay manager would be your best bet.

I'd second both suggestions - use VNC for detailed tweaking by remote control and the Web admin module for day-to-day setting up recordings etc - which of course needs only a browser. These methods have been working fine for me for years, and they work with PVRX2...

Thanks for your suggestions. I now have remote control using the EWA interface and that seems to be working fine. Having got that working I am keen to take advantage of streaming but I have hit a problem. I installed VLC on the server and on my local machine. I opened port 7648 on the router in addition to 7647. I log on remotely using the web interface and click the Manage Recordings tab. Where I have an existing recording I click the 'Start Stream' button. I select VLC as the stream player, check 'Open stream in external player' and leave the other settings as default. I click 'Stream' and on the next page click 'Launch External PLayer'. Then I get a file Download dialog and I click the 'Open' button. VLC Media Player opens and then I get an error message: Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://XX.XX.XX.XX:7648'. Check the log for details. The first problem is that I don't know where to find the VLC logs (though that may be a question for a different forum).

My next attempt was to download the stream instead of playing it directly. This time I selected Download as the stream player and unchecked 'Open Stream in External Player'. When I hit 'Start Stream' I got an error message from GB-PVR (I have attached it in a zip file because it is quite long).

Can anyone help me get this working?
