whurlston Wrote:Did you set up a GBPVR capture device for each tuner (one for XXXXXXX-0 and one for XXXXXXXX-1)?

Yes, and in order for it to work they both had to be set to 'device number 1' in the digital configuration dialog, although I made sure to select tuner 0 and tuner 1 when setting them up and mapping channels.
It works a lot of the time, just some of the time it comes up with that message. I'll keep an eye on the debug log and see if it says anything.

Ah, I thought you were saying it didn't work at all. When it happens, zip and post your logs.

whurlston Wrote:Yup, remapping still works. Just set the app to MCE in the HDHR Setup and remap with the lineup tab as before. Same old stuff applies: 68 channel limit (2-69), etc.

thanks.

I have read this thread (and many others) and I think you may be able to give me some guidance. I am new to this technology and find it all a bit confusing. I have read a lot of threads but just need some help.
I have GBPVR (1.2.13) installed and generally working with HDHomerun on two computers. Watching live TV is good quality (not great quality but pretty good) using CCCP codecs (FFDShow). I am trying to stream the recorded files to my TV with a D-Link DSM 520 that is wired to my network. Settings in HDHomerun software are Digital Cable, ATSC/Remap. I have remapped most channels correctly and continue to clean them up. Here are my issues:
HD Recordings break up and generally don't have continuity - once in a while they do work.
HD Recordings stutter when played on the DSM 520. I think this may have to do with higher bitrates (they range between 16K and 35K). When I record non HD content and play on the DSM 520 they play without stuttering.

Based on this, my initial questions are:
1 - Will filtering control the bitrate to a level that will work on the DSM520? Is that a recommended solution?
2 - What are the top two or three generally accepted Codecs that will work with all formats?
3 - I have considered converting/compressing the .TS or should I control bitrate?
4 - Is it better to use ATSC/Remap or GBPVR in the Tuner settings in HDHomerun? What is the difference?

Thanks

No. Filtering will only filter the specific program that you are watching/recording. It does not change the bitrate of that program. It only removes the other programs from the stream.
golfnut25 Wrote:2 - What are the top two or three generally accepted Codecs that will work with all formats?
Different codecs work for different setups. Nvidia PureVideo works great on XP for older video cards, but not Vista and newer codecs work better with newer video cards.
golfnut25 Wrote:3 - I have considered converting/compressing the .TS or should I control bitrate?
See #1 regarding the bitrate. Have you eliminated network issues as the problem? I don't have a DSM 520 so I'm afraid I may not be much help there.
golfnut25 Wrote:4 - Is it better to use ATSC/Remap or GBPVR in the Tuner settings in HDHomerun? What is the difference?
Personal preference really. ATSC/Remap mode offers built in filtering and injects channel info (in case it doesn't exist) but at the expense of limiting the number of channels. Native QAM mode gives you the ability to have more than 68 channels but you need to use the filter utility or stream the entire 38 Mb/s stream through the network.

Thank you. This is very helpful and I found out I had some misconceptions of filters etc from your responses.

I will try the codec you said works well on XP.

One other question, does higher bitrate correspond directly to recording size? In other words, if I have a high bitrate recording is that a larger file and would that cause the difficulty streaming to my TV? If so, is there a way to lower the bitrate to make smaller files or bitrates in order to stream better?

Yes a higher bitrate will generate a bigger recording size.

We have no control over the bitrate - this is set by the broadcaster.

One thing that made a huge difference for me was to ensure that my recording directory in the gbpvr config was pointing to a local drive.

Even though my recordings drive was a local drive I had it coded as UNC (i.e. \\computer\share\directory) rather that local (i.e. x:\video).

Since making this change my TS recordings have been flawless.

Using whulston's filter is great as it does minimize network traffic.

I should note that I have a GB ethernet card on my gbpvr machine attached to a dlink GB switch.

I have had no issues recording two high-bitrate HD programs at the same time from the HDHomeRun.

1.3.7 introduced native PID filtering for the HDHomeRun. To enable it on the HDHomeRun side, you need to to the following:

Edit: These instructions can be ignored. Using the latest HDHomeRun Setup, just set the application to GBPVR.

For posterity:

  1. Run HDHomeRun Setup.
  2. Set the application to "Custom".
  3. Close HDHomeRun Setup.
  4. Run Regedit and browse to the following key:
    Code:
    HKEY_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\Tuners\<device id>-<tuner index>
  5. Set the following values for each tuner that you want to use with GBPVR:
    • "BDAPIDFilter=Enabled"
    • "ChannelMapping=Filter"

You will also need to set the channel changer to "None" in GBPVR Config if you were using my PID filter program.

I have been trying to get this setup for the past couple days. The QAM.ini manager application made the difference in finally getting channels to detect in gbpvr setup. I was fooling around with ATSC remapping and stuff and never getting it quite right.

Now to map all these channels to the guide and see if i can watch something Smile
