I think Sub easily can set the checkbox - "configure recording service to interact with desktop" in his installer. Doesn´t EWA require this also?

MixMan, you may want to eliminate the Calculator plugin from your package for this.

I have this downloader/installer ready to test if anyone is interested in helping let me know.

If you are afraid of messing up your production environment I have been testing with Microsoft's free Virtual PC with their free pre-installed XP image that works pretty well for this test. I did have to add an automated download of .Net 2 to make it work.

With dotnet the total install time is about five minutes, without about 10-15.

I'd be happy to help you out, Martin. And I'd also like to know where I can download that free XP-image for Virtual PC.

mvallevand Wrote:Many of you may know I am working on and installer for GBPVR and the PCH which will do the following (most are optional) primary for PCH users. The install is tedious and I am hoping to smooth it but it is turning into a big installer. Would you as first time users think the following is too much?

What I am looking at scripting for the first release.

A. Basic install
- download and install GBPVR msi
- download unzip and install VC run time
- download and unzip survivor guide patches
- download and unzip my favourite patches

B. PCH customization
- make config.xml changes for PCH
- create mvpmc share
- download and install mvpmcx2
- create pch install script
- configure recording service to interact with desktop

C. Skin and plugins

- download unzip and run Music plugin installer
- download unzip and run Mayhem 3 skin installer

Martin

The installer is ready? Can i start with A until than or must i wait until your installer is ready?.

How long you think you need to bring the installer to run?

I like to help you with a vista home installation in German. The PCH A110 is near new... ok i put the Lundman Telnet to it and run it with a build in harddisk.

Interesting for you is maybe i have until now no internet connection with the PCH. I connect it with a dsl router. This router have no connection with the internet. I go to internet with a UMTS usb stick.

mail at arztde at yahoo dot de if you like my help... also if you like i can write a german instalation description or to translate yours to german language, as long this documentation is allowed under CC Creative Commons.

How to get the installer?

First thanks for your offer to help. I don't have a real release date yet, but I'm really hoping to get the install tested by a few users who know GBPVR before unleashing it, because I don't want to add unnecessary support posts for sub. Hopefully Chris and maybe some others can get some feedback by this weekend and I will update the survival guide. Keep watching.

Vista isn't going to be a problem because the NSIS installer is UAC aware and I have made my one added panel MUI aware too , but we shall see how multi-lingual it turns out to be. Right now the only user inputs are selecting features and entering the PCH MAC address, so translation is about 10-15 strings. The GBPVR install program does launch it's config program and I am not sure how multilingual it is.

I don't have a USB install ready yet but there will be one when it is released, you will just need to select that the mvpmc folder is on the USB drive when you do the install. The default look will be as follows and but you can edit out the options you don't need.

GB-PVR
GB-PVR via Network Browser
GB-PVR via USB

Martin...here we go...ran through this today....very good...hope this helps!

Instructions:
Item IV....you say from the Start Menu ..... should probably be a little more specific and say from the Windows Start Menu go to Programs, GBPVR and select Config
Note: Install done on Vista SP1 Business

Installer:
Instead of just a single text box for the MAC could it be broken up into the pairs i.e. xx xx xx xx xx xx since that is how it is displayed in PCH?
Install process (not so smooth):
Hung when downloading PVRX2
Turned off Firewall
Killed install
Restarted install
Loaded GBPVR
Hung when downloading Mayhem3
Killed install
Restarted install
Mayhem 3 installed
Install finished
Accessing via PCH:
Could not find share
Rebooted PCH
Could not find share
Had to manually set share of MVPMC folder on Vista PC
Could not find share
Had to turn off password protected sharing in Network and Sharing Center
Could not find share
Discovered turning off password protecting of shares would not take in Vista
Had to run command net user Guest "" from cmd prompt in Vista to be able to turn off password protected sharing
Was able to find Share

Turned firewall back on

Didn't know which to choose: GBPVR or GBPVR via Network Browser?
Tried GBPVR....didn't work....
Tried GBPVR via network browser....didn't work....PCH black screend and then eventually returned to PCH selection menu

Turned firewall back off

Turned off other GBPVR instance running on network

Tried GBPVR....didn't work....
Tried GBPVR via network browser....Was able to start GBPVR fine

Turned firewall back on
Some suggestions from above walk-through:

 • Provide either auto-firewall configuration in install or provide instructions on what how to set what ports need to be exposed
 • Provide instructions for activating a share on Vista including turing off password protected shareing
 • Provide instructions for handling the password protection not being able to be turned off in Vista
