mc2xml- Can't get started

I went to see if my scheduled Heroes was recording tonight only to find that my EPG was empty. I have seen in the forums that yapi2xml is done. I have downloaded mc2xml from the appropriate site but cant get the file to execute. I'm sure I am doing something wrong but can't figure it out. I have looked at the instructions in the WIKI but I guess I just don't get it'

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I have looked at that info and I am still confused. I am using Vista and when I right click on the mc2xml.exe to run as administrator all I get is a momentary flash of a command prompt window and thats it.

It needs to be configured. Once configured then the program will run..

It's a console app, which means that you can't configure it in a GUI...

Ok, Ill try to run through all the things I did and it should get you up and running.

1. Create a directory to put mc2xml.exe into

I made mine C:\Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR\Third Party\MC2XML

2. Open a command line window. In vista just type "cmd" into the start search area after you click the start button and then CTRL+SHIFT+Enter. This should open as administrator

3. Change the directory in the command line to the directory you put mc2xml.exe into

In my case i would type "cd C:\Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR\Third Party\MC2XML" into the command line window. You should see the directory change to this.

4. Type "mc2xml -c us -g XXXXX" into the command line where XXXXX is your zip code. This will bring up an option to choose which cable system you are using. Select the correct one and it should start to download the listings. It will create a file called xmltv.xml.

5. Configure your capture source to use this .xml file for your listings.

6. If you don't have an updateepg.bat file in your GBPVR directory, create one. Open notepad and enter the following info:

c:
cd\
cd C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Third Party\MC2XML
mc2xml

keep in mind that is the directory i use, just change it whatever you choose. Now click save as and name the file updateepg.bat. Place this file in the GBPVR directory and you should be all set.

I am having trouble with this. When I do step 4 above I get a prompt to run the .exe file, if I click "run" then I get an error that it is not a valid Win32 application. What am I doing wrong? Should I re-download the file?

Yes. The mc2xml web page mentions that. Did you read it?

I am having the same problem as tuckster. I have read the message on the mc2xml web site which says to check the file size. I have downloaded the file several times and the file size is different everytime. I have never had this problem downloading other files. Can someone comment on this problem?

You might want to try a different browser. Even the Forums or Wiki can mess with a download once in a while...
