I just took out 5 HDD from my PC that were loaded with movies and added 1TB. My moviewiz db points to all those old discs. Whats the best way to fix this?
THanks

Not in front of my machine at the moment, but you should be able to go into MovieWiz manager, and on the Settings tab, enter the new location as an archive directory. Then on the manage tab, click SyncArchived. I believe this will repoint all entries to the new location.

stevenjwilson, did the SyncArchive function work for you? If so, were my instructions clear? I think I may add some instructions to the Wiki, but want to make sure it works as expected.

Hi, I dont know if you are still watching this....I think the sync worked, but all in all MovieWiz is a PITA. Movies that are the disk simply keep disappearing and I dont know why. My kids are not happy when the movie is gone. Plus doing a manual "sync" every time you add a new movie to the disc makes no sense to me...especially if you power cycle or something, it ought to sync automatically. Its a cool tool with a very nice UI, but the basics are elusive to me for some reason.

I'm not sure why you are having problems with MovieWiz - I think it is great.

Maybe you could post some details about your setup - for instance, what OS are you on, GBPVR version, is your 1TB internal or USB external, etc.

Sorry you have having problems with MovieWiz.

I wrote MovieWiz (and the other plugins and utilities) as a hobby, a reason to learn a new language and because I don't get to code at work anymore. That said, I have a full time job, so I don't have alot of time to insure all the code works perfectly under all situations. I've added many features to the code that I don't even use. Although I try to test (and regression test) my code with new releases, I unfortunately miss things and rely on the users to identify and help me resolve problems.

When you have problems, feel free to post a message in the forum and attach your logs. I usually try to respond fairly quickly, and if it is an easy fix, I'll usually have a patch within a few days.

Hmm.. You shouldn't have to do a manual sync if you power cycle. You should only have to manually sync if you have moved a movie from one location to another.

You have not posted your configuration, but if you are running vista, I have seen problems where there is a 'shadow' copy db that seems to overlay the updated copy and cause problems. I don't have Vista so I cannot recreate, but I think there are several mentions of this in the Forums (This thread may help).

Hey, sorry for my terse and short reply, I was going to apologize anyway. I know you guys do this on your own time for fun and I appreciate it. I had written you a long note explaining the problem, but I accidentally closed my browser. I have a set of screen shots that explain it anyway I think which I am attaching. I will monitor this thread now and hopefully you can straighten me out. I really do like the app, I just cant get it to work right (at least in my eyes).

THe basic problem is that files on my HDD arent showing up in the PVRX2 app. I dont know if syncing, archive, hidden, or what has to do with it. But I have a TB of files to manage and so I need a process that works.

There are 2 screen shots in 2 zip files attached. I appreciate your help. Sorry again for not so friendly answer.

I think I'm going to need to look at the logs to see what is going on.
  • I will need your config.exe.log (or MovieWizManager.exe.log if you edit without going thru gbpvr config program).
  • Also the pvrx2.exe.log
I may need to take a look at the db also, but let's start with the log files to begin with.

Also, I noticed you have category protection (ie password protected categories). When the shows are missing, if you enter the password do they show up?

Make sure the missing shows are not in a protected category.

Geez....well I didn't notice/recall the protection piece and when I turned that off, lots of movies showed up. I haven't had a chance to play with it and check it all out, but that was evidently the problem.

Let me ask though, does protection work on a per category basis? I thought it did, but I didnt see how do protect one category over anther. It seems as if movies where protected, not categories.

Also, does the Whats New category show up even when no movies are new?

And if you can, can you briefly explain archive, hidden, offline...so I have a bit more clue.
Thanks

Good, I'm glad that solved your problem.

Yes, it protects at the category level.
  • The 'Plugin' tab, allows you to turn the feature on/off, and to set the password.
  • See the 'Settings(2)' tab, 'Available categories list' for the individual category settings. For each category, there is a check box that allows password protection.
Quote:Also, does the Whats New category show up even when no movies are new?
No, if there are no new movies, the "What's New" should not show up.
Quote:And if you can, can you briefly explain archive, hidden, offline...so I have a bit more clue.
Archive The 'Archive' directories relate to the Sync function. They are a list of archive locations that you'd move your recordings to. When you do a Sync, if a move is not found at the location in the db, it will scan for that movie in the Archive areas, if found, it will update the entry to the new location.

Hidden is an attribute of a movie. In a sync, if a movie is NOT found, it can be marked as 'hidden' so it will not show up in the plugin list (see the Plugin Settings tab, Archive Locations section).

The hidden attribute is really only the title with @@ appended to the beginnng. You may display the hidden entries on the Manage Content tab by selecting the check box.

Offline is an attribute of a movie. Some users requested that rather than hiding an entry, it should be marked as 'offline' instead. They additionally wanted some sort of offline id for their cataloging needs. This id is strictly manually entered and has no real meaning to MovieWiz.

Like the Hidden attribute, Offline can be automatically set during a Sync if the movie is not found (see the Plugin Settings tab, Archive Locations section).
