Ok have been pouring through the forums but have not found a definitive answer. I have a Hauppauge (Helious) MVP and gbpvr. I also have an extensive library of dvd's ripped into the standard ifo/vob format that I would like to watch from my mvp.

I see all kinds of hints that ztools might/should do this but not seen anything on how to step by step set this up to work. I can dedicate a p4 3.0 (800mhz fsb) with 2 gig ram computer to the task.

The mvp only serves 3 functions:
1) To play my recorded shows off tv (already in MPEG format)
2) To play MP3 files from a network share
3) To play FULL dvd movies from a network share

I think 1 and 2 are pretty much built in just looking for how to setup #3

My knowledge of MVP and GBPVR is limited so please be gentle.

Sorry, I didn't see this thread. I skim through the new posts, and didn't see any thread titles including 'ZProcess' or 'ZTranscode' in the title

I wanna be easy on you, but I'm not much for the 'I think it's working' crowd... (I'll add a smiley to take some of the harshness away: Big Grin )

1: Is the MVP playing back recorded MPGs?
2: Is the MVP playing recorded MPGs from a network share

If yes to both:

3: Won't deal with MP3s just yet in this thread.

4: Forget about DVD's for a bit. Does GB-PVR, the MVP and ZProcess play back a typical divx/xvid AVI? From a network share?

If all this is working:

5: Honestly, I haven't tried the new DVD on the fly with a DVD folder from a network share. It should work (if everything else is working)

---

From reading some of your other posts, I'll write a couple of general ideas that might fill in some ideas (in case I'm right and somethingts are missing)

A MVP server generates a virtual GB-PVR that is displayed on the MVP. That means in many ways an MVP is an extension of the server. In many/most cases, if the server can see a file (local/network) then the MVP can see it too...

You cannot see inside a DVD folder on the MVP IF the DVD is in full dvd structure (VIDEO_TS folder) That means there is currently no way of playing what's inside a proper DVD folder...

ZProcess' DVD support works with a real DVD in a real drive. It uses VLC (or MEncoder) to show the main movie from a real disk.

http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=3...stcount=11

ZProcess' VOB support will work with and show a series of VOBs in (what I call) a VOB folder. That means that I store my DVD vobs into a NON VIDEO_TS folder. (That way the MVP can navigate into that folder and start up ZProcess and transcode on the fly the vobs...

As far as realmedia and quicktime, I suspect that support can be written, but it's a matter of time, and certalinly at the bottom of my list of things to do (esecially RM. I can't remember the last time I watched a RM video. I've always thought of it as web driven like flash from Youtube kinda thing...)

Edit: rereading your post you said you want FULL DVDs to play. If that includes menus, then it ain't gonna happen. At least not from me. I don't even think it's possible on the MVP. the MVP doesn't support the type of interaction necessary for menus... I'm sure sub would have written in support for this a long time ago if it did...

Yes

Yes

No. I can see and select the file but the the MVP screen goes black and reboots after about 15 seconds.

If all this is working:

My thoughts here were with a VLC implementation if VLC could play RM files via the realalternative codec then it could stream them to the MVP. Is that an incorrect assumption?

ZProcess doesn't actually transcode anything. It launches a transcoder like ffmpeg. mencoder or vlc. So yes, if VLC can play a RM, then I should be able to make it work with ZProcess. alas time...

In the order of things I had mentioned, if you can't play an avi with ZProcess, give up on anything else until it starts working...

There is another person having trouble with getting ZProcess going and I suspect its from not having installed and configured MVPScreenPosition.

As said, it should be optional, but I guess currently, it's not. So install MVPScreenPosition and then follow the instructions for using ZProcess the first time (including manual first run of ZTranscode).

When AVIs start playing, if DVDs don't then let me know
