Micro Client Box

Hey all...

At the risk of being considered lazy... if someone where to build a very small client box (say MacMini Size). What recommendations would have for case, processor, and motherboard? It has been 3 or 4 years since I built my last computer... I am assuming OEM equipment this size exists. I want it to be descent but cheap. Thanks!

Ok... I did some quick research...

What about this Asus Eee Box that is all over the place? It seems like it is descent for a client box. Anyone have personal feedback regarding them? I concerned whether it would have sufficient power for to playback video without hiccups and for the menues to be fluid...

The reviews of the newer Asus Eee B204/B206 boxes sounds like they will potentially be a good client, and claim to be able to do 1080p etc. I'm not sure about the previous generation B202.

I think Win 7 is going to allow eee pc type machines and people might be better off holding off until then. I am d/ling the public beta now and right from the main download page it look promising for GBPVR users

I've got both downloads and I'm hoping to give them a try in the next day or two.

As a warning as far as I've seen, hardware H.264 decoders don't play just any H.264 file. If it's formatted weirdly you'll get weird results (like accelerated playback or slo-mo or chipmunk sound or it will just crash.) I've run into this sometimes. Software players are more forgiving but then you dip into the processor which you may not have with a small box computer.

However, if you are just going to use it to playback you're own recorded stuff and not downloaded internet movies, you're probably going to be ok.
