Good, let's fix problem two. Can you upload the logs for the Blue skin too?

Also if you can zip up and email me 5-8 jpgs that cause a problem, I can try them myself and if I have a problem, I will forward them to sub if necessary.

Hello, just got my PCH A-110, and I have some question:

1. Do I have to have a hard disk in my PCH to run mvpmc2 ?

2. Have you stopped developing the installation improvements
for mvpmc2 and GB-PVR ? or are they working ?

thanks in advance

There's no technical reason to do this unless maybe you run wireless, so it a personal preference. The performance from an http streamer like GBPVR is faster on a wired LAN than from a local drive, and to reduce noise and heat I stick with a server.

If you you look at my post two of the dummies guide thread http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=38896 you will see that the last update was Mar 03 so I do keep it current. It does work pretty well and I can't think of ways to make it better, it was probably the most worthwhile evening of development I spent. The biggest issue with the application I have heard of is some downloads fail and the script is not too resilient but a second run solves it.

As for the installation process the biggest problems are covered here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=40394 and these are thing the installer can't do.

I am open to suggestions for improve it though. My best suggestion for new users and potential buyers alike is to not concern yourselves too much with the installation and definitely don't waste time researching the installation process, just do it, and post a question if you are struggling after a half an hour or so. Also for new users, don't worry about the capture card or EPG until after you get mvpmcx2 installed.

I would fully agree with this.

I made the mistake of reading all the threads while waiting for my PCH to arrive and got thoroughly confused, trying to visualise what the aim was. When virtually all it needs is plugging in and unzipping a file (only slightly simplified Smile)

Thank you Martin for your thorough answer.

I feel more assured now, and will try your installation
package on my (diskless and wired) PCH.

regards

Hello Martin,

finally got to try your installation.

After third attempt vcredist_x86.zip got downloaded,
but then everything got downloaded and installed.

Got to the point when testing connection.
(enabling Guest account on PC first).

On PCH, browsing network to my PC, selecting mvpmc,
I got following error:

"unable to resolve hostname"

on second attempt I got:

"Cannot find the workgroup list"

I have a static IP on my PC, but my router have
no local DNS, so nslookup IP does not work.

Is it my lack of DNS that causing the problems ?

thankful for any insight

You don't need a DNS but I know the PCH like one to be configured. You should make sure that your PC and PCH are on the same network ie

192.168.1.1 PC
192.168.1.2 PCH

Also on you PCH add the share manually as

smb://192.168.1.1/mvpmc

After tweaking the startmeup script, I got it up and
running.

Splendid installation package Martin,
thanks for your effort.
