Yesterday I did a Windows update which included an update to .NET framework to V3.5.

I rebooted after installation as requested to find that GBPVR now no longer worked, with a window to report this mis-behavior to Microsoft. Having saved the config files, I un-installed GBPVR and attempted to re-install. There is now a "Fatal Error" window saying "Installation ended prematurely because of an error". :mad:

I have even tried system restore pre the .NET change and the problem persists.

My last ghost image is July 2008. Is this the only way to fix the problem?

Any ideas?

Hi! Sorry to hear you are having problems

try to re-install .net. get it here
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...laylang=en

after you have installed it you should install gbpvr again to fix any difficulties and see if that fixes the problem

to be safe you should make a copy of the gbpvr.db3 database first. it is located in the...
c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr

good luck

Thanks TVShowman,

OK, I did that, ran the DotNetFX35setup.exe and it threw up a "setup error".

Don't tell me it's back to the July08 image.

As I said in my original post I tried a system restore pre the .NET update to no avail. I created a restore point today, then as I am a masochist I tried to roll back again. The first error on restart was GBPVRTray.exe has encounted a problem....
When attempting to start GBPVR manually the error said PVRX2 has encounted a problem....
But here's the killer. When I tried a system restore back to today, good old Windows was "unable to restore" so I'm stuck at a point a week back with GBPVR still not working.
Strange that we are currently in a period of Mercury retrograde.
Maybe that ghost image of July08 is my only way out of this mess.

Are there any system error messages in Event Viewer after trying to launch?
Also, have you tried uninstalling .net first before trying to re-install?

I have exactly the same issue - even after uninstalling Net 3.5 I cant install the current version of GBPVR or even uninstall the previous version of GBPVR without encountering this error.

Event viewer log, for what it is worth:

Ok - the solution to this particular problem was that the GBPVR recording service from existing installation was not being shut down when I tried to uninstall the existing version or reinstall the next - manually shutting it down by typing: sc delete "gb-pvr recording service" from command prompt allowed me to install update

But once installed, NET framework 2 (not 3.5) reports an unhandled exception error every time I attempt to run GBPVR version 1.3.11
If I uninstall and reinstall version 1.2.13 (after manually stopping the gb-pvr recording service again, otherwise installation fails), everything works normally.

Clearly the latest GBPVR version is having problems with .NET 2 framework under vista 64

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

My ghost image from 2008 would not restore for some reason.

Due to the .net issues and other problems particular to my installation I decided to do a gdisk on the drive and do a complete re-install of XP. I am slowly getting the pc loaded and back to normal.

I will avoid the upgrade to .net 3.5 once I get GBPVR up and running, unless I find a fix on this forum.

Thanks for your suggestions
