I am having the same problem on two separate installations on a network with HDHomerun. On one machine I tried Quick record and got nothing. I changed the directories and tried again - go a 0 byte file. I then tried a scheduled record and got a 10.3 Mb file - about 10 seconds of a 90 minute show. I was recording the same show on the other machine and I got a zero byte file on that one, too. I tried another scheduled recording and got another 0 byte file. I am recording off of ATSC. The first time the BDA multiplexer was set on Microsoft DVR-MS and the second time on Full TS - both times Multidec enabled.

The first machine is set at TS Mux and the BDA Multiplexer is enabled - this machine I tried both on and off for multi-record.

I have read a number of threads relating to this issue and followed it to your sticky notes with updated patches. I downloaded them and unzipped them but I am a newbie and afraid to just replace them willy nilly or if that is even what I should do with them. I can provide logs, I think, but not sure what you would need or exactly how to generate them.

Thanks,

Jim

You need to install the patches. First just rename the old files so you will have them as backups. Then just drop them in the directory. Then I hit reregister filters. (I am not sure if you need to, but it does not hurt). I am not sure your problem is the same since you do get some files and this issue was tied to .ts only. Good luck.

I did as directed - changed names of existing files, copied over unzipped patches and reinstalled filters. Recorded a 30 minute show and got two zero byte files.

Does Live TV work?
If so, are you running a software firewall?
If so, have you added an exception for GBPVRRecordingService.exe?

After checking the above:

Start a recording from the TV Guide.
Let it run for about a minute, then cancel it.
Zip and post the following files

  1. PvrX2.exe.log
  2. PvrX2.exe-native.log
  3. GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log
  4. GBPVRRecordingService.exe-native.log

Thanks for the tip - I had a number of GB_PVR exceptions in the Windows Firewall but added the recording service and I did get a file that played back - about a minute or two. I will apply a similar fix to the other computer and see if everything works.

If it does or does not, I will post the results. I could not find the logs that you mentioned, so if it does not work I will need some help getting them.

Many thanks,

Jim

The files that need exceptions in the firewall are:

  1. PvrX2.exe
  2. GBPVRRecordingService.exe
  3. Config.exe

All logs are located in the C:\Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR\logs folder.

Thank you very much. Everything seems to be working as it should.

I mentioned that I am a newbie. Much of the terminology is foreign to me and the technology is new, too, so I am not sure of the capabilities or what my expectations should be. Often, a little thing like the firewall setting can make for a huge failure. I am frustrated by the limits of my knowledge more than anything, but it can be frustrating just the same. I try to read as much as possible before jumping in with a stupid question but I don't always know where to look.

I sincerely appreciate the patience, understanding and dedication you all have shown me. I think this is a great project and I look forward to a long association with it.

No problem. Normally, the firewall is not an issue since the tuner would be internal (or USB), but since the HDHR is a different device on the network with a separate IP address, the firewall comes into play.
