Understand that, but I'm getting the wrong channels on one transponder and no signal on the other.

Here's the logs doing a scan with the LNB set to 11700 and 11300
sub Wrote:What are your LNB settings set to? Are you using one of the Sky dual LNBs?
I've tried the LNB set to 11700 and 11300
LOF1 = 9750
LOF2 = 10600

Yes it is a Sky dual LNB

This behaviour you describe is a common symptom when you've got your LNB settings wrong.

Have you tried setting all three settings to 11300?

I'm not really familiar with these LNBs, having never used one myself, but I've seen comments indicating these have have a built in 22KHz switch, so you might need to select the SimpleA or SimpleB diseqc settings.

Question for HVR-3000 users: Can it record DVB-S and DVB-T siumultaneously or is it one or the other?

I need a bit of advice too. Just returned to NZ. Have had GBPVR with PVR 350 for 2-3 years. The analogue signal is crap where I live so I'm thinking about freeview. I use MVP to watch recorded TV over my wired ethernet. So here are my questions

1) Do I need a hardware encoding card or is that unnecessary when using DVB-S or DVB-T (I gather DVB-S = mpeg2 and DVB-T = h.264 or something)
2) If I record in these formats am I going to have any problems streaming them to my MVP i.e. is any transcoding required? on the fly?
3) Freeview has no prime. Can I run my PVR 350 concurrently with a DVB-S or DVB-T card so that I can get prime as well?
4) Dumb one - can I use a redudant sky dish for DVB-s freeview? any modifications required?
5) assuming that DvB-s is the way to (mpg2 encoding --> streaming to MVP) what card would you recommend? Any dual tuners? Not necessarily stuck on hauppauge if there's a cheaper option. (Forgot i only have PCI slots)

Thanks in advance to anyone who can tackle this list for me

Nope, one at a time. Not together.

Nope, you're talking digital now, so there is no hardware encoding, in fact there is no encoding at all. All that happens is the bit stream is taken off the transport (Satellite or UHF) and dumped to a file - in it's simplest terms.

dazza139 Wrote:2) If I record in these formats am I going to have any problems streaming them to my MVP i.e. is any transcoding required? on the fly?

Most likely. Especially the dvb-t - and you'd need a really big machine to be able to transcode the dvb-t stream in real time.

Since the dvb-s is an mpeg2 stream I think you can get it going, and there are some threads to that effect if you have a look around of the forum.

dazza139 Wrote:3) Freeview has no prime. Can I run my PVR 350 concurrently with a DVB-S or DVB-T card so that I can get prime as well?

Yes.

dazza139 Wrote:4) Dumb one - can I use a redudant sky dish for DVB-s freeview? any modifications required?

You're two for two - yes you can (I am doing this now) - and an old sky uhf aerial for my dvb-t setup.

dazza139 Wrote:5) assuming that DvB-s is the way to (mpg2 encoding --> streaming to MVP) what card would you recommend? Any dual tuners? Not necessarily stuck on hauppauge if there's a cheaper option. (Forgot i only have PCI slots)[quote=dazza139]

You can't really go past the hauppauge hvr3000 or hvr4000 cards. 3000 would be fine for you. It is a single dvb-t and dvb-s tuner. You can't run them both at once, but you can schedule recordings on both sides of the tuner, and gbpvr is smart enough to know that this is the same hardware.

Later on once you've got dvb-t going well you could add a hauppauge nova t 500 for dual dvb-t goodness. Then you'd be pretty set - as there are only 3 transponders in nz, you could effectively record all 3 of them at once.

Unless you have a good UHF signal (Prime/Maori) (& live in an area they are actually broadcasting a DVB-T signal) I would say you won't get DVB-T to work, DVB-S should be fine.

Quote:2) If I record in these formats am I going to have any problems streaming them to my MVP i.e. is any transcoding required? on the fly?

I guess a lot depends on how good your signal is & how your recording turns out, I have been fighting this since about July last year & have still not found an answer that satisfies me. You can record them in .mpg format using various different mux's & play them direct (there is a huge thread with a link to different mux's somewhere on the forum) or you can try recording them in .ts format & either transcoding them or playing them directly to the MVP using the mvpmc dongle. Some searching of the forums will give you heaps of reading.

As already advised I would go with a HVR3000 or HVR4000, I tried a TwinHan card out first & the difference in recording quality was huge.
