Changing the port to 8080 works. Is there any harm in leaving it at that?

That tells me there is something on you gbpvr host machine that is blocking or interfering with port 7647.

I would switch it to a different port...try 8181 or 8081. 8080 is used by VLC for the web interface that EWA uses for streaming so you will get conflicts using 8080 if you try to stream anything and use the VLC streamer controls in EWA.

I've changed the port to 8081 and everything is working locally including the streaming.

Note that I still cannot get to the guide from my external IP, which is somewhat puzzling.

I'm pushing my luck here, but just for troubleshooting purposes, if I can get to localhost:8081/etc does that mean that port 8081 is open to external traffic?

You need to set up port forwarding / NAT / game sharing (or whatever it's called on your router) for port 8081. I notice you started the thread saying you'd managed this for the original ports - so just repeat the steps for 8081

It's happened again!!

I now get the same error message in Firefox as previously. It's like something is overwriting the port access.

If I change the port to something different again, say 8082, it works again - but how long til that doesn't work as well??

UJB - do you have any other ideas?

Unfortunately, I do not....this is the strangest issue I have heard of yet.

If you reboot your gbpvr machine do the ports that work now work again or are they still not working following a reboot?

Did a little bit of research....you mentioned using firefox.....have you tried using IE instead?

Apparently Firefox 3.x has a port blocking "feature" built in.

I found this post to override it.
