Scheduling from Twitter

I am thinking of trying to use twitter to allow the scheduling of recordings from my cell phone. I figure I set my status to something like
"gpbvr: -channel 12 -start now -seconds 240 -name "Property Ladder" -pre 1 -post 3"

and then I would have my gbpvr check my status every 5 minutes for updates addressed to it. It would simply pass the "command" to the scheduler in the gbpvr directory.

So anyone have any experience doing something like this? I have scripted the REST API before and I understand the Twitter uses that so I think it is possible. Does anyone have a better way?

Thanks.

Wouldn't it just be better to use the web interface? If I remember correctly EWA has a WAP mode that makes it suitable for use with a phone.

Alternatively there is Orb, which works respectfully via a cell phone too.

Twitter does not require your phone to have full web access (you can use SMS which is all I let my daughter have).

I was not familiar with ORB, but it looks pretty cool. I might give it a shot as well.

Thanks for the ideas.

Would you parse DM's? How would you keep people from scheduling recordings for you?

I would guess so. I am not sure you can distinguish, between them.

I would have the gbpvr "follow my status (or the status of a secondary account)" so it would only respond when I posted an update to my status. It would be as secure as regular twittering.
