Hi Everyone,

my new HTPC is coming tomorrow!!!!

Instead of the MVP, I will have a dedicated PC for the television (Dell Studio Slim 540s, Core2Quad, etc) and want to find a way to easily move the current setup onto this new PC.

I had though of installing the current release (same as my backend today) onto my new PC (Vista this time, not XP), and then copying in the current GBPVR directory after shutting down the processes and recording service.

This of course assumes that all BDA and Hauppauge drivers are installed!

I also want to use my current Hauppauge remote control from the MVP with my new rig -- assuming that I scrounge up a USB IR receiver, is this a valid option and what would I need to do to sew it up? Our familiy is used to the Hauppauge MVP remote and changing that would be fatal.

Has anyone had success with this type of migration, what pitfalls could I expect?

Thanks,
Dane

I recently upgraded my pc (originally xp, no vista). What I did was install GBPVR onto the new machine, stop the recording service, then copy my config.xml and gbpvr.db3 files onto the new machine.
Also, before I re-started the recording service I made sure my recorded shows were in the same path as they were on the old machine. If you're not sure, try changing autoremoverecordins (? not sure of the exact name) in config.xml so it won't delete the entries from your db3. Then start the service, start gbpvr and see if all your recordings are still there and working correctly.

From there I started from scratch with any plugins I might have had, since most don't take too much time/effort to set up.

not sure about the remote working with a usb ir receiver, although I assume you would have to also install another remote listening program in order to use it. Maybe someone with more experience there can help...
