Stocks plugin crash + new version

Yesterday I was showing off my GBPVR system to a friend and just as I was saying that you can't even tell it's a PC... KABOOM! gbpvr is gone and we're on the desktop with a Microsoft "Send/Don't send report" that I can't clear with my remote.

Turns out the web service that the stock plugin uses is down at the moment and the plugin isn't handling the exception. This brings down gbpvr or the config app whichever one you are using.

Here's a version (binary + code) that handles the exception and puts up an error box you can clear with the "Ok" button on the remote. If the owner of the Stocks plugin is still around and agrees with the changes please post on the wiki. It's a pretty safe change although more difficult than expected because of the multithreaded design of the plugin.

Since the owner of the stock plugin is nowhere to be found, I uploaded my version to the wiki and removed the attachements.

Posted a new version of the stock plugin on the wiki that works with pvrx2. It only needed a small tweak to the skin for background.jpg. Also the zip file now stores the plugin under a "Stocks" subdirectory under Plugins as required by pvrx2. Not that anyone would want to look at their stocks these days... :eek:

The stock plugin, as are many legacy plugins, is broken by the slick skin which PVRX2 selects by default. Does it work if you use the blue skin?

Edit: I just updated the Stocks.zip file so the GbpvrUICommonElement's common dialogs are also included under the slick skin directory so it can work with the slick skin too.

I tried with default blue and slick skin (I usually use Blue Retro SHV skin but stock still worked with it), and also tried again with all 3 skins after installing your new upload from the wiki and still dont work. It worked before, so I am baffled why it all of a sudden stopped working.

What is happening is rarely I get 2 of the 4 stocks I am watching (RTP, BHP, CLF, GOOG... yeah I lost a ton of money too http://forums.gbpvr.com/images/icons/icon9.gif), and if I refresh it shows the opposite two (sometimes). Mostly if I wait long enough I get no stock data and the error "GBPVRStock :Error fetchStockData : System.Net.WebException The operation (I cant read the rest under the OK button, looks something like) at System ... Services Protocals... (cant read the rest)".

Also, ALL THE TIME it hangs the computer raising memory allocation from 2% at idle to 63% (that is kind of high for 2 GB memory and 3.6ghz P4) Regardless, it wont let me escape to the main screen of GBPVR so I have to CTRL ALT Delete to get out.

I have a friend who said Sport Scores worked for him up until about the same time, but he uses slick skin... we were wondering if something else is related. He is very computer savvy, where I am just good enough to be dangerous http://forums.gbpvr.com/images/icons/icon10.gif I will let him chase down his own fix for that plugin.

We are both using GBPVR v1.3.11
