Your video card does not do hardware MPEG2 decoding. Instead it has some hardware acceleration features that help the decoding process, which some video decoders can take advantage of. You still have to use a video decoder.

Okay, so, reading the instructions in the wiki that say "use the default renderer unless it doesn't work", I put the renderer back to VMR9 Custom, then tried ALL my decoder options. Nothing worked. I put the renderer back to EVR (or whatever that E** was), and tried a couple different decoders. Some worked fine, but had a couple lines of green lettering up at the top left about audio format and bitrate and stuff - don't know what that was about. However, the "Intervideo .... for Hauppauge" seems to work fine.

Thanks for all the help and patience. Now I need to go back and figure out why it isn't tuning to different channels when I change channels...

So what video decoders did you try exactly? When people say this, its usually sign that they dont have any of the common decoders that typically work well.

Microsoft MPEG-2 Video Decoder
ATI MPEG Video Decoder
Intervideo NonCSS Video Decoder

Of those, the only two I'd expect to be any good are ATI MPEG Video Decoder, ffdshow Video Decoder. For the ffdshow decoder though, you may need to check that pvrx2.exe is added to the list in the ffdshow settings, and make sure the MPEG2 codec is enabled.

So, I've looked through the ffdshow video decoder page of settings, and I don't see anywhere that I would "add pvrx2.exe to the list" or something similar to that. I did make sure one of the mpeg2 decoders was enabled. So, where do I add pvrx2.exe to some list?

Thanks in advance!

On the 'Directshow Control' settings page in ffdshow settings, there is a tick box with 'Use ffdshow only in:' and a list of applications next to that tickbox.

Oh, yeah - I saw that, but it is greyed out because I guess the default is the field above that, "Don't use ffdshow in:"

Would you (sub) and others who use FFDshow recommend I limit it via "use ffdshow only in:"?

No, but I thought I should mention it because a lot of people have found they had their ffdshow setup that way, resulting in it not being available to PVRX2.

Maybe try this decoder: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm
