To honest, I'm not that keen on adding anything which actively shuts down a machine (or puts into hibernate/standby). Til now I've left that to stuff outside the application. People will schedule recordings for next week with shutdown, then forget about it and schedule other recordings etc, then complain that recordings didnt happen because the machine had shutdown etc.

You can NEVER stop stupid behavior from users , its a fact of life.

Tho not putting a feature in just because some small percentage of users will be incapable of understanding it would probably protect the tards pretty well.

But it would be unkind to group us all in the thicko camp.

Its kind of different when you're the person that has to support those people's mistakes though... (not keen on creating work for myself)

OK , fair enuff you are the boss

Tho one way to protect from this happening would be:

IF new recording=record&shutdown mode
And
There are recordings (of any type) scheduled after this date
Give A warning message that the subsequent recordings could fail
before allowing the new recording to be added.

An almost tard proof solution :-)

The other recording (either manually created, or automatic as part of season recording (with nobody sitting at the PC)) might be added after the shutdown one, which might have been scheduled the week before.

Also, the app has no way of knowing when you'll eventually power the machine back on. ie, if you've got recording for the following day at lunch time, it has no way to know you'll definitely power it back on before then.

There is more to it than just recordings though. For example, they may have decide on the night of recording to have their machine spend a few hours transcoding a blu-ray to a .avi file, and this is in progress when GB-PVR's recording completes and shuts down the machine. GB-PVR would have no way of knowing what other processes are doing.

Not worth the hassle.

You are totally missing the point , but I will humor you

1. You set a normal recording for the midnight show
2. You set a record and shutdown mode recording for 4am show.
3. You go to bed

I want this as an additional recording mode , not to replace the normal one.

HtV:
standby or hibernation is problematic for tuner hardware even as you stated , hence thats why I ask for shutdown.

Any thoughts Sub ?

I completely got the point - unless you want to manage all you recordings manually you could easily miss a recording this way because you may not realize a second recording is coming. So I offered a few helpful suggestions sorry to have done that I guess.

I think you are missing the point of everyone trying to help, but I will humor you - standby and hibernation is not necessarily problematic for tuners there are hundreds/thousands of us who have done just that with no problem for years.

With Hibernate I get problems with the remote control sometimes not working

Since we are unlikely to get this feature ( cos we are too thick to use it correctly)
I have opted to use the create a custom task that toggles a file on or off
In the postprocess.bat file the last thing before it exists it check if the file exits
if it does the file is deleted ( to reset this from happening twice) and then shutdown the PC.

Not an elegant work around , but it does the job.

Thanks McBain , tried checking out those methods (but not so good)

I did find the right tool for the job tho
Its called hibstart , run it from normal startup and it will wait in memory doing nothing
until you wake from hibernate. It will then run what ever files you want every time the PC wakes from hibernate.

Here is a link to the guy who wrote it site
http://home.arcor.de/domaende/HibStart

Has full instructions for use

This is bound to be useful to other people.

Odd, I've never had a problem with gbpvrwake.exe / wake.cmd they have kept my devices working since day one.

Hibernate trigger is another one and can also run stuff as the system is going into hibernate
