How much can a plug-in do?

I’m one of those people who bought the ATI 550 thinking there would be MMC support but now we know there is not.

After looking at many other players I came across gb pvr, and like it a lot but, there is no sound for the 550 yet.

I know Sub can’t work on it unless he gets a working unit (sound doesn’t work for him in any application)

I’m a Computer Science Student, and thought this would be a great project to working on. But I really don’t know where to start (of even if I can, since gb pvr’s source is not available).

It’s not possible to make a plug-in that would support sound is it?

It is possible for you to write recorder plugins (for example, see WDM Recorder Plugin in hardware forum), but its probably not practical. It'd be a big complex piece of work, any you'll probably find you are still working on it when my sound problem is eventually resolved.

So do you recommend an alternative path (other than the plug-in), or should I just play the waiting game?

What I was trying to say - you could write a plugin to do this, but it'll probably be easier to just wait.

I suspect I'll only need to change one or two lines of code in GB-PVR to get it to work, but unfornately I dont know which lines they are until ATI get me some working drivers.
