Remember "Everyone" doesn't apply to the PCH, you need Guest or named access, and you have to change some things in Windows to allow Guest (it is different in XP and Vista). Blame Microsoft for making it so tough.

Nothing should have changed that stopped your PCH from talking directly to another share unless you have used a duplicate IP for your new PC

Not sure how these Vista Shares work. If I'm logged on as administrator shouldn't I have full access to the shares? I usually don't set-up separate accounts. When I turn my computer on it uses the adminstrator account(I guess) and I don't use passwords. I right clicked on the mvpmc directory and have it shared with Adminstrators, Everyone. Whats the right way to do it?
Also my other computer that has my videos on it was always Vista. The share worked ok on that. What could be blocking access now? Thanks for any help.

No administrators don't have full access to shares by default unless you setup domain administration.

I already provided a couple of links to help setting up Vista sharing from the PCH in the dummies guide. This might help PC to PC too especially if you don't want passwords.

Ok, I turned off password protected sharing and now I can see the mvpmc share. Not sure how protected I am with it turned off though. When I looked at my older Vista PC I noticed I had turned that one off also, so thats why it worked before. When I click on GBPVR via Network Browser I get a blank screen and then the pch reboots. No gbpvr menu loads. I tried the other GB-PVR button but that didn't work either.

Does the PCH really reboot to the B&W loading screen or just start restart the PCH browser to the Colour popcorn screen? It if is just a restart that is a controlled exit.

If it is in 5 seconds either your command line is wrong, or you haven't seen up a default video type on the PCH so you would need to store one (preferred) or edit startmeup to have a command line.

If it is a thirty second wait, that is usually firewall, but send me your GBPVR logs and I will have a look, to make sure NMTInstall did what it was supposed to do.

Martin here are my logs. Thanks for taking a look. It just reboots to the colour popcorn screen. I don't think its the firewall, I tried it with it off and still had the problem.

There are several errors in your recording service log. When you installed the updates from you other server did you run copy them in a administrator? You might have put them in the Virtual Store. You definitely want to fix the SQL DB error but the web server isn't loading either, check to make sure that the Interact with Desktop option did get installed.

I still can't get this thing running with Vista. I ended up uninstalling gbpvr and then reinstalling. I didn't copy over any files from my old system this time, I decided to start from scratch. I got the gbpvr to show up on my tv through the pch. But when I went my videos or my music I could see the files but when I clicked on them they wouldn't play. I then when to admin services to get the gbpvr recording service to run an account, instead of local. That really messed up things. Now the menu on my tv keeps flashing off and on. I changed the admin services back to local system account but the problem still exists. I am beginning to hate Vista. Any help would be appreciated.

I played around a little more. I changed the video settings in the startmeup file to /etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 -m 1080i --frequency 50 &. No more flashing screen.
The only problem now is I am unable to play videos or music.

By not using NMTInstall you just shifted problems, based on those last two posts, and you may even be using an old mvpmcx2 which overall is kind of frustrating for me but in any case, you probably don't have interact with desktop enabled.
