I am having a terrible problem on ONE remote computer getting videos to play through the web interface and Videolan VLC. On my other remove computers, it works fine. The web interface comes up, I select the video to play, it loads an M3U file [with "open with"]. If I just hit "enter," it loads VLC but I get an error message saying "Unable to Open. http:\SERVER/gbpvr/public/download.aspi? rid=_wECuhE"& path--wFI&mode=1" or something like that - hard to transcribe.

I get the same error if I try to open the M3U file directly with VLC.EXE.

I've been playing with this for several hours (trying to change the Tools/Options/Applications/M3U settings in firefox, and trying to change or delete the Folder Options/File Type/M3U in windows, but I can't seem to get it to work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling VLC a couple of times. I'm pulling what little hair I have left out. I'd be grateful for some help.

I should say if I run the MPG file directly in VLC, it plays fine. So I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the M3U file getting interpreted properly.

Thank you all (and I apologize if there are instructions somewhere on her for fixing this - I couldn't find them).

Interesting......

Are the versions of Firefox between the computers?
Does it work on the bad computer if you use IE instead?
Are all the remote PC's running the same OS?

Same version of firefox. Same problem with OE. I'm pretty sure it's a windows interpretation problem. It's not handling the M3U file properly. With dread, I think I'm going to need to reinstall windows and all of the programs. Urgh.

Instead of opening the M3U file that is created choose the option to save it. Then open that M3U file on another machine and see if it works.....that will rule out a problem with the file itself.

UncleJohnsBend:

First, thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

I tried your suggestion. The M3U file seems to be fine - runs the file on a different computer on the same network. Also, the m3u file created on the different computer gives the same error on the "bad" computer. So it's not a windows problem, it is VLC's inability to run the m3U file properly.

I uninstalled VLC, ran a registry cleaner, then reinstalled with the latest version. I still get the problem. Specifically, it says:

Your input cannot be opened.
VLC is unable to open the MRL. 'http://192.168.1.2:7607/gbprv/public/download.aspx?rid=_WE3RA*8path=_wFI & mode=1.' Check the log for details.

I'm not sure where the log is to check. So, very strange problem. Any ideas? Thanks again for your help.

On the statistics tab of EWA there is a link to get to the log......or you can drill down on the GBPVR server.....the log file is located:

Code:
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\gbpvr\66372bc5\b1db62aa\assembly\dl3\

Drill down under the sub folders until you find one with the gbpvrpublic.dll and you will see another folder in the folder called logs.

Well, I figured it out. The computer was operating strangely in other ways (would not let me update the anti-virus program). So I ran a bootable virus checker, and it found and removed a virus. After that, the anti-virus updated and lo and behold the GB-PVR network interface works. Strange, huh? Again, thanks for your help.
