I was having this problem and i determined that it was due to the Cool'n'quiet on my AMD chip. Change your power profile to "Always On" (only works in XP) and see if you still get the studdering. If you don't have the problem any more then add this batch file to your GBPVR directory. You'll need to update your directories if they are not standard. also, you'll need to install Slimm's Sys Tray: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/SlimmGBPVR

name it "recordingstatus.bat"

@echo off

c:
cd\

Cd Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR\
gbpvrcli.exe /inprogress /m {MinutesToEnd} /messagei None >output.tmp

for /f %%a in (output.tmp) do SET A="%%a"

if %A%=="None" (goto Power_Min) ELSE (goto Power_On)

Tongueower_Min
c:
cd\
cd windows\system32
powercfg /s "minimal power management"
goto MyOver

Tongueower_on
c:
cd\
cd windows\system32
powercfg /s "always on"

Just beware if you do turn Cool'n'Quiet off that your CPU temeperatures may go a lot higher and therefore cooling /noise may be a problem. For example, I use Speedfan to control CPU fan speed and with Cool'nQuiet on, CPU temp is between 16 idle and 55 full load, and the fan usually just ticks over at its minimum (around 1000rpm) and almost inaudible. With Cool'n'Quiet off, temp hovers at 50-65 regardless of load and fan is continually speeding to max, which is a heck of a lot noisier.

I personally haven't found Cool'n'Quiet makes any noticeable difference to stuttering, possibly depends on mobo / cpu combination. I *have* found PCI and USB device placement can make a huge difference, presumably IRQ conflicts or bus bandwidths or timings. So I'd try moving PCI and USB devioces around (removing those that aren't essential to see if they make a difference).

One thing you could also, check that your IDE controller / hard drive hasn't gone into PIO mode rather than DMA - I have had this happen randomly a couple of times (under XP, circumstances/cause unknown) and stuttering goes all over the place from a combination of poor disk performance and its correspondingly high CPU usage.

I'll have to check the IDE controller on my computer/IRQ designations, I am curious. And unfortunatley I only have 1 PCIE x1 slot and one x 16 slot, so moving cards around isn't an option in my case.

Also, please notice that my bat file turns the cool'n'quiet back on after recording, so the CPU doesn't waste electricity/stay hot.

I should also clarify, in my case I only get the stuttering if i am recording and trying to watch a show live. I found that cool'n'quiet was throttling my chip about 4 times per second from 1 ghz to 2.5 ghz rather than staying at 2.5 ghz during recording. When I changed my power profile it stopped stuttering.
