Hi, having problems setting up your HIP installation? double key presses with MCE remote? don't want to install a strange driver? no problem..not needed..Big Grin
Well, it's not as hard as it used to be, no alternate drivers needed, no double presses anymore either...Smile

You can have any remote you wish, or just use the MCE remote if you have one..
all MCE remotes can be set as remote #1,#2,etc. and you can tell windows to only respond to remotes with that number setup...HIP will see all of them regardless of that setting..WIndows' defaults are to listen to id#1, and all remotes come setup as id#1

There are 2 methods for disassociating a MCE remote with MCE, do either #1 or #2 below...
[when using a non-MCE remote, just skip to setting up HIP]

#1. Run this command...
Code:
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da" /v "CodeSetNum0" /t REG_DWORD /d "2" /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da" /v "CodeSetNum1" /t REG_DWORD /d "2" /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da" /v "CodeSetNum2" /t REG_DWORD /d "2" /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da" /v "CodeSetNum3" /t REG_DWORD /d "2" /f
as long as there's no CodeSetNum# with a value of 1 or 0 you're good to go..
if your remote itself is still set to id#1, you're all set...continue to hip setup..
Hip will learn codes from any remote including MCE ones and not send double keys..
To undo reg setting, just set back to '1' or '0'

Or, if you want to use 2 MCE remotes in same room, change the remote's id's:

#2. To set your MCE remote to a different remote id# :
"Press and hold the DVD Menu key on the remote then press a number button (1-8) for 5 seconds. Remotes with visible LED signal indicators will blink twice to confirm the change. "
Now your remote has the ID# of the number button you pressed after dvdmenu...Big Grin
Windows default is set to respond to id#1, so so now it won't use your remote for MCE operation, but it's still available to HIP...as long as you don't set it for id#1 windows will ignore it and hip will have full use of it..
you'll have to 're-learn' the codes in HIP as they are now changed!
[the signals the remote sends out are different]

As long as your remote id# and windows remote id# are different, you're set...windows will ignore it.[but not HIP] Smile

Pictures and brief HIP setup to follow...
just flushing out some layout here before adding to wiki..
works with vista supposedly too..
still have to check out mce dongles on win7.

I need a Vista user with mce dongle to test...

it will go on the wiki probably...will get pics and examples up with simplified paths for alternative setups..
thesedays i just slap on HIP, then open a config file...nuttin else to do..Smile

i just wanna be sure to get all the keys mapped and generalized [take out my custom stuff]
i use all sendmessage keys so everything's done witout stealing focus..Smile
plus nowdays i have my mvp remote mapped as well as any mce remote..

just ran across this when i was setting up a new machine [Dell laptop with component outs]
been using that command trick for ages, just decided to update it..

thanx for the win7 info...i figured...i saw some way to get the dongle working, but it still wasn't usable really..so i guess i'll have to see what i can find out..
if we can just get the hardware to be available and talking, we should be able to get something workable going..
[maybe the vista alternate driver?]
i guess i'll reinstall my win7pre and see what's up with it..
i don't remember having any problems with remotes, but i don't remember if i tested one either..lol

also just did a fresh install of xp and it sets all other codesetid's to 0 which is 'any'....
so you do have to set them all at something other than 0 or 1...

will fix in a few...
[basically that same cmd 4 times]

hehe, Reven posted then Reeven...LOL

from what i'm reading the dongle does work in win7 with built-in drivers, albeit with the double-push problem we used to see...other remotes should work..[hoping]
no doubt some fuddling around in the registry will flush it out again..Wink

many users with 'non-MS' MCE remotes were having problems..

you should be able to get around the double-press problem by changing the id code on the remote i would think..be on the lookout for any win7mce tweakers..
i couldn't even figure out where the xp registry settings came from,i think generated by win, cuz not in driver .inf...

try 'relearning' the mce remote keys as i read they just changed the strings to be longer in win7...
[presumably to have more codes possible]

snipppets from an intelliremote post from author: http://forum.melloware.com/viewtopic.php...a&start=30
Quote:I just don't know how I can fix it from an Intelliremote standpoint?
A) If you delete the registry keys then the HID Signals stop being sent rendering Intelliremote useless.

B) If you leave the registry keys intact then Intelliremote works but gets the "double button push" behavior since the MS driver is still receiving the signals.

C) If you turn the HID Service off in Control panel the MS Driver still receives the signals.

D) If you disable MCE Controls in the Policy Editor it turns off MCE Responding but still get the double button push problem.

E) Removing the registry entries and running as Administrator does not work as reported on other forums.

so it seems the reg entries are there, just change them all to 2 instead of deleting...
and let us know how that goes..Big Grin

edit:
just found this...
Quote:STEP 1 : Windows 7 or Vista Professional
* Disable the MCE Services (credit Motofreak75)

1. Open MMC
2. Load the group policy object editor
3. Open the Local computer policy
4. User config
5. Admin templates
6. Windows components
7. Windows Media Center
8. Do not allow Media center to run : Enable
supposedly it works...try it out and let us know..
tho if setting the id's to 2 works then this isn't necessary..

here's info on how to make your own .inf and remap the keys to anything you wish...Big Grin
[or just edit the registry with the values]
http://www.mediacenterguides.com/advancedremotes

mucho advanced info there..Smile
[scan codes etc.. might be usefull for Mr MVP Smile]

i'm almost to the point where i have a .inf you can click on to remove keys from mce...then i'll convert it to a .reg file and post...Big Grin
it should work in win7 as well and be foolproof.. sweet

just save as something.reg and click on it..nothing else needed, now unplug and replug usb, restart hip and go set it up Big Grin
don't forget to run as admin and probably have to use my net2hipsend for blasting cuz of 'enhanced' win7 security..lol
may have to re-scan keys, not sure...try it as-is first...[win7 using longer codes]
EDIT:just rebuilt from stock registry entries]
cool thing is, WMC will still receive the codes, we just told it not to do anything with them..

Cool, just picked up a 40" 1080P toshiba for 650$ gotta love Fry's being a block away..hehe Big Grin
