You could develop a plugin that shows important information - recordings, playing now, hdd space etc but instead of showing it within GBPVR writes it to a jpeg somehow every second.
Is that feasable?
GBPVR: A64 X2 6000+, ASUS M2A-VM HDMI, 4GB ram, 8800GT GFX, 2x Nova-T DVB-T, 1x D-Box2 Cable reciever, 2x Wired MVP's, 1.0.16. Vista.
Plugins: MusicLibrary2, Weather, Int Cinema Listings, Burn DVDX2, D-Box2 Plugin, DVD Ripper.

It would be feasible but it's not something would be interested in doing.

Would it theoretically be possible then to mount this as a drive on a PCH and send an image to it from a remote PC?

Can it stream music or just photos?

I looked at ones a few months back to act as an advanced remote control but unsure how you would get commands "up" to the server. Would be interested to see how you get on with it...please post again with your findings Smile

I will certainly post again when I get it and have more info. They have been in and out of stock for the last week or so, so when they showed in stock I ordered.

I'm not sure how open the device is, not a lot on't interweb that I could find.

A 40 quid touchscreen/remote control operated device with a wifi connection would be great, if you can hack it. Would be a great low-cost music streamer with lots of possibilities.

edit: kudos for typing in Yorkshire speak Smile

As a small external digital frame monitor, this Samsung one might be appropriate - it functions as a working secondary monitor via usb, (as do these mimo view ones) so should do the job, although not too sure how well it handles video.

It's been sat on the shelf for a while as I've been a bit busy....
The picture resolution is excellent and better than most I've seen.
The software is not open, but some folk are slowly getting to the heart of the protocols.
As standard it supports RSS feeds from Flickr and will cycle through the pictures in a Flickr folder and responds to picture changes.

Attached are three screen dumps I sent to flickr and the frame displays them without touching it and wirelessly.
