its actually pretty cool how it works, and if one drive dies (when a parity drive isnt configured) you will only that single drive with the data, most other options you would probably lose everything. and with a parity drive, if 2 drives die, you only lose the drives that died, not everything. again most things would lose everything.
i would recommend it over FreeNAS, its more flexible.
