Anyone Using FreeNas +RAID as a Recordings Drive?

Reven - I spent an hour or so looking through the UnRaid site. This is very interesting but it seems to be built for fault tolerence (RAID 4?) rather than just combining disks (RAID 0?). I may look at this for building a server to store the 300 Gigs of digital photos I am terrified of losing.

you dont need to use it for fault tolerance, you dont need to configure a parity drive. and just use it to "combine" the drives.

its actually pretty cool how it works, and if one drive dies (when a parity drive isnt configured) you will only that single drive with the data, most other options you would probably lose everything. and with a parity drive, if 2 drives die, you only lose the drives that died, not everything. again most things would lose everything.

i would recommend it over FreeNAS, its more flexible.

Looking at your configuration, and assuming you've got 1 CD/DVD rom drive in the GBPVR box, why don't you just add a 3rd drive to your computer? That way you don't have to mess with any of the RAID stuff or pulling something across a network or anything else.

Now, I might have missed something in the quick scan over this thread, but this seems to be the simplest answer.
