Although I don't use DVB-S very much, I have noticed that for Live TV, I get video and audio, but if I record it and then play it back, I get video but no audio. This only happens with DVB-S. Recordings are in .ts format. This seems strange as I would expect both to behave the same. DVB-T is fine. Any ideas?

Hasso

Have you tried a different decoder?

I have noted this over my friends place too
Changing the audio codec does not help
Any playback from buffer or a recording from DVB-S is mute, for the following reason.
Connecting Graphstudio to GBpvr's Playback graph shows that a second monogram AAC decoder is incorrectly connected to the mpeg2 Demux audio pin. That is as well as the correctly added "monogram AAC decoder" connected to the "AAC" mpeg2 Demuxer audio pin.
The valid chosen DVB-S mpeg audio decoder "cyberlink"... etc is left unconnected.

Unfortunately the "monogram AAC decoder" is unable to decode the mpeg audio from NZ DVB-S, therefore the lack of sound:p

He wasn't too bothered as he can watch his recording in windows media player, like for the DVB-T ones on C4 and now Prime. He mainly uses the DVB-S for grabbing the EIT EPG with your exelcent grabber.

Its more likely the Cyberlink decoder was unable to connect for whatever reason, so Directshow chose to add another decoder. If you'd chosen another decoder that was able to connect, then this problem wouldnt have happened.

NZ DVB-S works fine for me, with a pile of decoders.

I found with my setup (mostly cyberlink decoders) that I had to use some Technotrend invideo decoder for dvb-s recordings to have sound....

Well, I've tried all the audio decoders I got. None, including the Power DVD 8 one, produce any audio for recorded DVB-S files when played in GB-PVR. The file plays fine using PowerDVD 8. Any suggestions on which audio decoder would work?

Hasso

Have you tried any non-Cyberlink decoders?

If you try a non-Cyberlink one, then post your pvrx2.exe-native.log, I'll take a look.

Sub okay I'll try to hunt down some different audio decoders, instead of the ones I've tried so far.
Hopefully I'll catch up with him at the weekend and he will still let me fiddle some more over drinks.
Thank you

Success. I installed my copy of ULead DVD Player... that made the C&E Audio Decoder available. Once selected the DVB-S files play back fine.

Just find this audio decoder selection stuff very confusing sometimes...

Sucess here as well. But it was an interesting two part bug
I used the latest SVN MPC-HC audio decoder 1276 set to SPDIF passthru to the receiver, which hooked up in the graph OK and works very well.
Recorded playback ignores the selected realtek audio render and uses Default directsound device #003 instead.
The "default directsound" renderer would not pass SPDIF to the receiver, until "audio playback" "hardware accceleration" was set to none. That's good enough to get sound working.
I would say that was a realtek audio SPDIF driver bug, which I left for my mate to find a working realtek driver & windows combo
MS Directshow HuhRolleyes

Thanks for the help
