Now that I have 2 DVB-T tuners and 2 analogue tuners I really want to avoid using the Analogue's unless I absolutely have to so I get HD - Stangely I seem to often get analogue recordings at times when there is little or nothing else recording. I currently have <PreferAlternatingCaptureSources> set to true. If I have <TryToHonourPaddingIfPossible> set to true does this mean it will still use another tuner for a subsequent recording on the same channel rather than stopping and starting the same tuner? I hate (strong word) having 1 minute of a show on the start of the next show which is the main reason I want so many tuners. I actually have another twin DVB-T card in I'm about to configure so then I'll have 4 HD tuners so hopefully it won't be an issue. From what I've witnessed it appears that when you book a new show to season record whatever tuner was used on the first show will be preferred from then on??? Is this correct?

Cheers,

Matt

I'm going to be up front and say i sorta understood what you were saying but not fully.

Anyway, The part i dont understand is are both shows on analog and digital channels at the same time, how are the tvguide listing set up in config, are their different guides for each each (analog/digital), are your cards digital and analog cards in one tuner ie can it only be used for one at a time not for both at the same time.

the reason i ask these questions are, if they are separate tuners you should have no problem with recording them at the same time, also i dont know of any channels that have analog and digital streams together on the same channel number, so i dont understand the part where you say
Quote:Stangely I seem to often get analogue recordings at times when there is little or nothing else recording.
this would only happen if you scheduled the recordings on the channels allocated to you analog tuner and not to the digital one, and you should, as i am gather each tuner is separate be able to schule the recording on one or the other or both at the same time

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think tuner priority is based on the order they are listed in the config, capture sources tab. Live TV is top to bottom, recordings are bottom to top.

Other way around. Recordings are top to bottom. Live TV is bottom to top.

if you have both those settings at 'true' then yes, it'll try to record on another tuner, so that it can 'honor' the padding on all shows....
if you just want to get rid of the '1 minute of another show at beginning', then turn off the 'try to honor padding' setting and it'll still try to use another tuner, but without taking into account padding....[starts w/0 padding]

or simply remove the padding setting in that show's recurring entry...then it'll always start at displayed start time..

i use both on true so i *can* get the padding added...

if you only have 1 analog tuner, padding is always honored cuz there is no other tuner to take new show when they overlap...Smile
if you have same channel in both analog and digital, then it'll treat them same...you'll get padding..

sounds like just the order needs adjusting really...

it doesn't care which card you schedule it on...goes strictly on order in config...
might wanna try turning off 'prefer alternating' so it always uses config order no matter what and only goes to next card if highest one is busy...
