This is the requested log. I played a real dvd.iso but got no picture. Only the screen "remember to back up" etc. However in the background it seems to do something because I was able to press pause and got the pause indicator and after pressing stop the PCH returned to the selection menu.
I hope that the info in the log will help you for your next step
My tv-set (Pioneer PDP-428XD) officially supports all resolutions from 480i upwards to 1080p.
Any idea why I can play a MPEG recordings directly from the PCH with 576p and i and also 480p and i without any problems and that I have been able to do the same with mvpmcx2 (without command-line parameters)? The tv-set correctly displays the resolution in the OSD, i.e. 576p.
Is there a difference between playing MPEG's and DVD's?
Do you want to have a log with the 576i resolution?
I wish I was an Oracle too, but I can't answer your questions on what causes this to work or not work, I guess I was just lucky on the 09/09 version. I will try and get 576i working again for you, and maybe even try HDMI 576p to see if that works and looks ok, but as much as I like a challenge I am not going to pursue this much longer.

1. O.k. that's fine Martin. I would already be very happy with a working PAL (576i) on component.
For your curiousity I will extract a VOB from the dvd.iso and try to play that with 576p and log with putty. The error could have been caused by a bad or incorrect formatted iso.
2. The directory containing the VOB's could not be opened in 576p. Have made a log with playing a pal MPEG on 576p component just using the PCH. Perhaps that it is helpful. There were no problems in playing this recording.
If you need logs for 576i and/or 480p/i on component and/or HDMI just let me know.
3. Have tried 576p component again with another video iso. This works. See 2nd attachment. So it seems that my tv-set has no problems with all resolutions from 480i/p and higher.
4. Just checked the specifications: on HDMI my tv-set supports 480i/p (60Hz), 576i/p (50Hz), 720p (50 and 60Hz), 1080i/p(24, 50 and 60Hz) so switching from component to HDMI is no problem for me or my tv-set. On component it supports the same resolutions except for the 1080p.
Have set the PCH to 720p on component and used the following command-line options: -m pal -o component --zoom crop. This gives a working gbpvr with a correct zoom but with a resolution of 480i. Adding the --edtv parameter gives the same result, still 480i. Changing the pal to ntsc with or without --edtv gives in all cases 480i.
Martin: you are absolutely on the right track! Just a couple of small corrections and you have a perfect mvpmcx2 Please don't give up yet
I did not yet try the HDMI part because I assume that you first want to tackle the component part.
