How can I tell if my Haup 500 has the MPEG2 encoder?

Without having to open the case back up, how can I tell if my PVR-500 has the encoders or not? It has FM.

I am fairly sure all PVR-500's have hardware encoders. I think I saw another message from you mentioning it was an MCE version? my 2 PVR-500 MCE cards both have FM & hardware encoders & have been running fine for years......hope I didn't just jinx them :p

150's and 500's have hardware encoders. The only variations between versions are around FM and remotes AFAIK.
