Hello,
Does the DVD button should show on the MVP (TV)? I can't get mine to display. I looked in the config module and made sure that the show button is checked.
When I open GB-PVR on my PC it shows the button but when I go and check it on TV it doesn't.
The reason I am trying to do this is the ability to play PAL and NTSC DVDs on my TV.

Is there something I can try to resolve this?

Thank you.

Nope. You cant use the MVP to watch streamed DVDs. That's why the button doesnt show up. It's also why I returned my MVP.

So, can I ask what do you use instead of the MVP?

Why is playing DVDs over the net is different then streaming live TV?

Educate me please.

Thank you

Actually, I ended up buying an HDTV with a DVI input. I just decided to do away with the middle man. An expensive choice to be sure but a worthwhile investment. I could have just bought a Tivo and saved a bunch of cash but I quite enjoy fiddling with the software and customizing my HTPC.

As for playing vs. streaming, I think the MPAA has something to do with that. My impression is that the MPAA doesn't understand streaming, therefore they don't want people doing it until they can find a way to charge for it. I know that the MVP does have the ability to play DVDs. There were several Hacked firmware's made available shortly after the MVP was released. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a single one and I don't think anyone here is willing to openly discuss where such things can be located. As it stands, the MVP is not capable of playing DVDs as it comes from the factory.

I originally bought the MVP for the purposes you currently seek. Once I figured out it couldn't do what I wanted I returned it. Hindsight, I should have kept it for the wife. I can't get this woman away from MY HDTV long enough to enjoy it for myself! LOL!

You can watch dvd's on the mvp, but do a little work, no biggy.

1. Use dvdshrink from doom9.org
Just select the main movie, removed any subtitles. Do a custom ratio compression, usually about 55-78% without losing quality. In perference's uncheck split vob at 1gb. Press backup. When done use vobedit also on doom9.org demux the video and audio. Now use HeadAC3he i think its on that site. Convert your ac3 audio to mp2.

Multiplex back together using any normal multiplexer. I use Tmpeng, but this is the only program that is not free. Of course, there is a 30 day evalution version you could try.

Now you have a compressed dvd converted to mpg..

I remember a while back I saw a pluging for DVD2MPG on the wiki site. Going back to check it out is describes a similar process but automated for the DVD conversion to mpg.

I was wondering if this pluging works well?

Thank you for the reponses. Cool

I use the program and it works great. Jeff has the newest version bundled with the VidoeAchiver pluging now. You can choose if you want to use both or just one.

The reason why this happens is due to the data types of the DVD. The DVD files are not 100% MPG2 formats that the MVP requires. So Sub removed the DVD option on MVP connectionists prevent this question, "Why can I select a DVD, I have video but I don’t have sound?".
This is why the DVD2MPG plug-in was created. It breaks apart the video and audio, re-encodes the audio to be MPG2 compatible, and then merges the video and audio back into a single MPG2 file for the MVP.

It not a limitation of GBPVR, its a limitation of the MVP to play raw DVD streams/files.
Use the plug-in, it has works great for many users.
