Quality is similar to DVD I've heard (geekzone). Not sure the d/l speed or buffering.

the fact its constantly recording the last 2 channels you watched, so you can rewind tv before you switch it on is cool. thats the only feature i really like, the gui for it looks terrible though, except for caspa, that looks alright. the tv guide is butt ugly

just buy a bigger hard drive and record everything in gbpvr Smile

a mate used to rave about it he had one from the states
but he has my sky now
the only feature it had that sounded good was once you record something it learns your pattern and records shows accordingly
other than that i cant see any advantage

Yeah, that's one of the things I really miss sometimes about TiVo... I'd turn the TV on, discover one of the two tuners was on an interesting program so I'd rewind up to an hour back to catch what I missed.

Nah no real benefit. I already have more tuners, more space, and more customisation available that a tivo. And the ondemand stuff, meh, thats why video stores were invented.

I'd recommend them since for $900 they're a good twin tuner recording device with "other media" playback facilities, but no good for me.

the only real interest i have in them is the on demand stuff. thats where we are heading, over the air tv is off little importance to me, the only thing i do watch on nz tv is outrageous fortune, i get all my other stuff, via other means Smile.

but i dont like the fact its tied to telecom, and i dont like the fact you have to pay per movie/tv episode. i wouldnt mind paying a monthly flat fee, but $5-$7 a movie and $2-3 a tv episode would get expensive. up to $60 a month for all you can eat would interest me. but it would have to be at least 720p

Yeah a lot of people didn't like that (tied to telecom) but I guess thats how the cookie crumbled. I think it's stupid that ondemand content is not available to non telecom customers as all. I think that's a silly move. Yes tcom could have put in 0 metering, but the others should have had it available as well.

But oh well. So yes the content is still SD, I assume HD is going to come (HD streaming is only just hitting the states - so we'll be a while behind).

But it's good there is finally a legal download service in new zealand, other than itunes.

It will be interesting to see what OnDemand facilities TelstraClear come up with with their new pvr...
