I simply exit out and resume the recording which brings the timeline and comskip "skips" back in line correctly.

I wonder if this is related to the type of recording? I'm still using analog tuners, recording files in mpg format, and when comskip "catches up" with a show we're watching it works fine. I haven't seen the compressed timeline stuff here.

It may be some sort of HD vs SD thing, and SD may be when I see it work correctly. I'll have to pay attention to what sort of recording it is next time I see it work correctly.

yes, for sure the livetv setting does affect this...i've been using it for several years this way...
[even had talks with eric about improving the livetv part]

without the livetv=1 part, comskip won't write anything till it's done..so it's a must..plus using parallel processing...[or the setting in config,IF you don't have any batch files]

that said, comskip only writes preliminary skip points while it's recording,[best guesses] and at the end, it has all the data to go over again and come up with better results...reason skip points change at the end even if there were already some there..

so results 'during' are sort of half-brained, results 'after' are it's best final guess...
[i think only black frame and sound are used live, no heuristics]

the reason you see it starting over is usually logo detection, after it's decides what the logo is, it starts over for results with that logo..
[usually only a couple of minutes in]

one tip: comskip is confused by pre-padding,so much better results with 0 pre-padding...post is okay tho..

Thanks pBS, I'll try that setting then. When I read about what that setting did, it sure didn't imply anything like that (or if it did I misread it all).

If I am watching the show while recording, when COMSKIP finishes I will start to see the auto skipping kick in. As others have stated though, the skips are not in the right place though. To resolve the issue, I always stop and resume. This fixes the issue.

For me this is always HD recordings and a I am watching from PCH. I don't watch enough SD content in time shift mode to say whether it occurs there too.

sub, related to matters discussed in this thread, I've finally noticed that when comskip finishes while watching a recording, the skips will be read incorrectly if the recording was 30fps progressive (in the US, that'd be 720p); the skips are all twice as long as they should be, and in the wrong places. If the recording is 60fps interlaced (480i, 1080i), then it reads the skips fine. In all cases, exiting playback then resuming re-reads the skips correctly.

I realize the new version is all but final, but if this is a simple fix it'd be great if it made it into the new release.

Thanks.

I am seeing these same results. Also HD recordings in .ts files from HDHR and playing on PCH.
