Ripping Blu-Rays

Anyone ripping Blu-Rays? What software do you use? How big is the result? Plan is to rip them to disk & watch on the PCH. Comments and/or advice appreciated.

AnyDVDHD is about all you can use I think (Paid software). Br's come out anything from 25 to 40gb worth of files. You normally go hunting through the directories until you see a bunch of .m2ts files and one of these will be really large.

Grab that and try and play it. If it doesn't have any sound (cos it's DTS-trueHD or any of the other DTS superset formats) you can use something like tsremuxr to reduce the sound format to regular DTS.

DVDFab does blu-ray, and the basic ripper functionality is free; the paid versions include transcoding as well. It should admit though I've only used it for DVD's, I don't have a blu-ray drive yet.

I use AnyDVD HD to rip straight to full ISO (requires a *lot* of space). Before I figured out how I wanted to watch them, I also used MakeMKV to create movie-only rips keeping select audio tracks. MakeMKV also supports removing copy protection but it doesn't support quite as many titles as AnyDVD HD. DVDFab HD Decrypter, I haven't tried yet. Back when I started ripping Blu-rays, it wasn't really an option. Since I've already ponied up cash for AnyDVD HD, I haven't really explored other options.

I use AnyDVD also, ripping the full ISO onto the hard drive, about 30gb per disk. Given the ridiculous price of the disks I don't see this a being an issue anytime soon!
I first tried only the main movie with AnyDVD but ended up with Star Trek X1 in German! Did some reading up and audio switching is a known issue with ripped movies, hence the need to faf around with remuxing etc - so the full ISO was a quicker option for me.

I tried DVDFab now that it supposedly includes HD Decrypter, but couldn't get it to go.

Well, I got my first blu-ray and successfully ripped it to disk using DVDfab. It appears to be an exact copy of the BD and I can play the individual files (it's a collection of shorts films) on the PCH OK. I can't figure out how to play the entire disk from the rip, tho. I'm not sure it's possible on the PCH but I can't play it using PowerDVD8 (that came with the blu-ray drive) either. I'm not sure where to point it to start. PowerDVD plays it fine from the blu-ray drive so I guess I need to play around a little more. It looks great in 1080p...definitely an improvement from the plain old DVDs. I'll try another one tomorrow, a single-movie disk.

PDVD does not support playback of Blu-ray folders. You would need to rip to ISO.

Ahh...that 'splains it...thanks...

I was looking for the equivalent of the video_ts folder. The old DVD player (not PDVD) I've been using will play from that.
