I'm using powerline ethernet to the garage and HD seems to work OK - not that I use it much. I think the 200mbs ones handle traffic in full duplex which gets rid of the delays that possibly upset HD streaming that wireless suffers from.
Remember that any signal received at all with wireless will make the transmitter hold off until it is quiet.

When have you ever seen anything hit the maximum for the spec? Mine shows as being connected at 108 Mbs, the problem is that the speed isn't consistent.
It's noticable even browsing from a laptop. I'm biased against wireless for HD even on PC's though and they buffer more than a PCH can. Martin

I actually see it quite often, in my line of work you meet your specs if you want to stay in business.
I guess what I find mind-boggling is that the maximum continous through-put is 1/27th of the maximum spec. Or am I missing something here? But I guess if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. -Brad

You can but it won't do you any good  They are BT/Comtrend ones that are probably only available in the UK. baj1 just to pipe in again, there's a lot more to throughput than just the theoretical Mbs rating for network in a labl The MVP is rated as 100 Mbs but you would be lucky to get 10 Mbs. The PCH tops off at about 50 Mbs wired with GBPVR but that is fast http, drop that to using Windows share and you get about 20% reduction. The CPU speed for networking and for video processing and how the "NIC" is connected to the system all are factors.
Then there is the physical medium. All you have to do is walk around with a wireless phone in your house and you will see that wireless isn't consistent. For power-line Ethernet, I have the original homeplug 14 Mbs and depending on the outlet in my house I get between 1 and 14 Mbs and many values in between. Martin |
