I hope this isn't off topic (bare with me)

I have just started using GB-PVR and it's perfect for my EPIA M10000, Hauppauge setup (Well done all involved). I have an issue with the VIA drivers where by the Overlay settings are too bright. I can adjust this in the Windows display settings, but changing the Saturation randomly affects the colours, they jump about as if I was changing the HUE.

I am using the THX optimiser with "The Phantom Menace" and "The Incredibles". The first screen shows 8 shades of white. All of which are white for me at the moment.

If I open WinDVD I can correct the brightness/saturation and get the colours right (or near enough, I'm not a total perfectionist). However when I save them and open GB-PVR (using the intervideo DVD player) they are still too bright. I assume the WinDVD settings are for WinDVD only and GB-PVR cannot use them?

Can GB-PVR control the brightness of the overlay, or the settings of the DVD playback.

I'm a bit confused and would really appreciate the help. :confused:

Thanks,
Nanook

Thanks for the confirmation Sub.

I kind of would have expected that if I set up WinDVD the way I want it that other apps would automatically use this config. Why would WinDVD resort to displaying it any old way just because another app is using it?

I feel like I'm missing something. I'll keep looking...

Thanks again,

I dunno. I would have it expected WinDVD to use it's configured settings.

Hey, hey, I've solved the problem. :p

After digging around the registry and having no luck, I tried a different approach. I used the registry monitor (REGMON) from sysinternals (http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/regmon.shtml)

I ran this and loaded up GB-PVR. After trawling though the logs I found what I was looking for:

HKCU\Software\InterVideo\Common\VIDEODEC\GBPVR\CCBRIGHTNESS NOTFOUND
HKCU\Software\InterVideo\Common\VIDEODEC\GBPVR\CCCONTRAST NOTFOUND
HKCU\Software\InterVideo\Common\VIDEODEC\GBPVR\CCGAMMA NOTFOUND
HKCU\Software\InterVideo\Common\VIDEODEC\GBPVR\CCHUE NOTFOUND
HKCU\Software\InterVideo\Common\VIDEODEC\GBPVR\CCSATURATION NOTFOUND

These are the COMMON values that WinDVD is looking for in the regostry and NOT finding (amongst a load more that I will add to the end of this post).

I started messing around with CCBRIGHTNESS first. After a few attempts I found that ffffffe8 (-23) decreased the brightness to the correct level (for my setup anyway).

Here's my tip to get the correct levels without editing, saving, opening GBPVR a million times until you get it right: Open WinDVD, play your dvd, calibrate the display colour to how you want then with the color settings set to "custom" (make sure you view as full screen to ensure they're correct).

Open regedit and goto: "HKCU\Software\InterVideo\DVD6" look for the
"ColorPreset_4" value. Mine read: "-23,-5,0,-9,0" (Brightness, Contrast, Gamma, Saturation, Hue) (Hue and Gamma may be the other way around). Using these values you can work out the values to put in the registry. Here's what I put in:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\InterVideo\Common\VideoDec\GBPVR]
"CCBRIGHTNESS"=dword:ffffffe8
"CCCONTRAST"=dword:fffffffa
"CCSATURATION"=dword:fffffff6

It works a treat, I'm really pleased. Smile Big Grin

Hope this helps someone else,
Nanook
