Hello again. I'm using GB-PVR with nvidia's codec to view live TV with live preview, and when it works properly, it works great, the motion quality is unrivaled by anything I've seen before. The problem is, it seems to be very random whether it works properly or not. When it DOESN'T work properly (which seems to be about 30-50% of the time) there is a lot of shimmering/ghosting around the edges of moving objects, and it seems that the deinterlacer is just having a hard time with the feed. I seem to only have this issue with livepreview. recorded shows, timeshifted tv, and other videos do not seem to suffer from this problem.

I've tried changing various settings in the nv decoder, but they don't generally seem to make any difference. "deinterlace filter" in GB config doesn't work at all, I'm not using ffdshow, and of course, no deinterlacing solves the problem, but then I get interlacing (or whatever it's called).

Is it a tight edging shimmer? It may be similar to something I was just addressing in a wintv forum. It could be strobing or a moire effect, and I saw more of it when I went back to the nVidia decoder.

You can't get rid of it althogther, unless it's not present in your regular TV signal. But I found it more pronouced at first. It started happening more w/ the nVidia decoder, because it was sharper than the Intervideo one. To fix, I lowered the sharpness of the picture. I did this to the video card, as to not lose the sharpness w/ the tv card. I also brough up the motion filter 1.

I don't know if this is the problem you are having exactly, though. I sort have my doubts it is, if you don't see it in timeshift (which is what I use). It should be happening equally, unless the TS picture isn't as sharp as the Live one.

well I don't know what bitrate the 550 pro is using by default, and I can't change it, so I don't know if TS and LP are the same quality, but they appear to be pretty close, with perhaps a slight edge going to LP (except for the motion shimmering of course). I wouldn't call it tight, it's pretty much distorting anything that moves so that it looks like it has a blinking aura of itself. So far the nvidia decoder seems to provide the best and sharpest picture, so I would like to continue using it, but I would also prefer to view live tv instead of timeshifted, at least until I can control the bitrate of the 550.
