Hey... I've been out of the loop for a while... If I were to get an HD STB, are there any capture cards that I can feed the output from the STB to, and use in GBPVR?

I'm sick of waiting for HD channels in our DVB-T network (I doubt it'll ever happen), so thinking about switching to satellite. One option would of course be to try and get a DVB-S card and get multidec working, but it seems like a waste of money if I'm unable to make it work...

Ok... I'm not sure I wrote what I meant... I know alternatives *exist*, I'm more after what you guys recommend. For example, I know of the Hauppauge HD PVR, but read in another thread (I think it was sub who said) that there are better alternatives if you are outside of America...

I think the Hauppauge HD-PVR is the only option I'm aware of. It gives to highdef capture over component video. You'd need to check if your STB has component outputs.

Boy, it has been a while! May I butt in? Can GBPVR manage recording times for the Hauppauge HD PVR to record in loopback mode? I have a Pace stb that I think I can manage through its guide to either record or view the appropriate channel at the desired time. I did not see support for this card. I was just wondering.

Thanks ahead of time!

Sure - GBPVR can record from your HDPVR while you've got it looped through from your STB->HDPVR->TV.

Most people end up setting their STB to output a constant resolution, either fulltime 720p or 1080i, since this seems to cause less headaches.

Just to be clear, GBPVR wouldnt be using any integrated guide features in your Pace STB, it just be recording at the specified times and optionally using an IR Blaster to tell the STB to change channels at the appropriate times.

Sub,

Thank you for the fast reply! I see not much has changed in this area. So would I pick items off of the guide to record or would I have to set up manual recording times? It has been roughly about 3 years since I have had my setup working. My experiences may be outdated by now.

Thanks!

Assuming you setup your capture source with a proper EPG, then you can either schedule recordings from the TV Guide (either one off, or season recordings), or if you prefer you can also do manual recordings. Its up to you really.

Sub,

Thanks again! That is what I needed to hear to begin working on getting GBPVR going again. I know I have my work cut out for me on the EPG. That has always been challenging since the end of zap to it. FYI, I can only get about 20 hd shows on the Pace stb and this is driving me nuts. I cannot pull anything off of the stb unless I use a loopback method, so therefore my storage is very limited. I will be transitioning to Win 7 as well. Thanks!
