I am trying to upgrade my home router to a Linksys E3000. I have been using a linksys WRT-54G. After installing the new router and rebooting my PC that runs my GBPVR server, neither of my NMT devices would no longer connect. They display the index.htm that is on my GBPVR server share, but when I choose to connect to GBPVR the screen goes blank. It eventually (after about 45 seconds) returns back to my index.htm.

One of the odd things I saw was that I was able to connect with NMT to the PC immediately after installing the router, but this changed after I rebooted my PC.

This is a wired connection. My GBPVR PC is using a static IP. Reinstalling my old router seems corrects the problem.

I know this probably an issue with router setup. I am hoping someone else has had a similar situation and may be able to give some advice. Most of the security settings that I am familiar with are related to the wireless portion of the router. I never expected to have issues with the wired LAN aspect.

Your PC and your PCH's need to be on the same sub-net. I'd guess your router is not configured to assign dynamic IP's properly.

Is this something I can tell by looking at the IP address it hands out to the PCH?

On the NMT network setup screen check the IP xxx.xxx.xxx.### , the xxx part must match you static IP.

Searching around I have discovered this router has some issues regarding SAMBA shares and workgroups. I suspect my issue is the same. I have read several accounts of people having troubles with different media streamers and this router.

By tweaking my firewall on the Windows 7 computer that runs GBPVR, I was able to get this working. In the firewall settings, there is a checkbox for local network and public network for each program you want to open up the firewall. I had to check both the local and public for both gbpvr programs (the service and pvrx2). With the old router, it was fine to just have local checked.

It might have been firewall related but you absolutely don't need the public network opened up to run mvpmcx2.

I think Windows 7 automatically changed the network mode of my computer from home network to public network when I installed the new router. The Windows Firewall started blocking everything then. My windows firewall seems to be working like it use to now that I have reset the mode from public back to home.

I guess I wish Windows 7 would have made some attempt to notify me that is was changing this setting. I imagine it was some sort of security measure to flip this when the router looked different.
