I'm starting a thread for questions about new features [or lack thereof] of new release.
Get to them when you can Sub, troubleshooting will need more immediate attention..

First one from me, is there a client mode? if not, is one planned? [for livetv, control of main unit]

How about FSE mode? [or is it automatic when going fullscreen?]
lots of cards depend on it in xp at least..

i also see no info in vid library on shows that have them in file:metadata

is there a key reference?

what is required besides having SoftMCE files registered for analog? any setup needed?
and no support for hardware encoders anymore? even those with .ts output ability built-in?
[had to ask]

i'll have to play with it more to see what else...boy i hope it's not too hard to reskin...Big Grin

There is no client mode at this stage, but yes it is planned. I have done part of the work for adding this feature though.

There is no FSE mode. There is some differences with how NPVR does its display, and hoping to avoid adding a FSE mode, but I can add one if we find it's needed.

The video library does use and show the metadata if present. From memory, the default skin doesnt show meta data when in covers view, but the list view definitely shows it.

Quote:is there a key reference?
No, not yet. Pretty much the same as GB-PVR though.

Quote:what is required besides having SoftMCE files registered for analog? any setup needed?
From memory the SoftPVR components are the only requirement for analog.

It is still using the hardware encoders. With hardware encoder devices all it uses from the SoftPVR software is the mainconcept multiplexer filter (ie, no soft encoding is done).

The skins are different to GB-PVR, but fairly similar in how the XML works.

Uh oh, that scares me Smile

It might be some time before I can try the new version (the wife won't let me), but I know under my current XP setup, nothing other than VMR9 FSE gives me perfect tear-free video. I can't really comment further without being able to test it, but it's good to know FSE might still be an option if required.

sweet...i thought it was all software encoding now...glad it's not ..Smile excellent news tho, .ts was made for the intermittent dropouts of antenna signals..handles errors easily..

hmmm, how to change views in library? ctrl-b doesn't do anything...i'm guessing it doesn't have that view in skin?

oh and what's-new 'days' setting doesn't seem to be working..i only get 5 shows even when set to 100 days worth...[and i have way more new shows in recordings 'ready' screen]

and fse may be necessary, as it offers liquid smooth animation and osd, where i get skips w/osd up now without it on several cards...and it's normally hardware decoded..seems to be using tons of cpu in npvr...fse may fix that...

hmm, i see vmr7 is back...Smile that may be better for lower end cards...
will have to see how it plays out..so far so good in vmr7....Smile

still lots of cpu usage no matter the mode...even evr..

There are some hidden controls at the top left of the screen. You can either move the mouse to that corner of the screen, or press 'up' key in cover view, or press 'left' key in list view, to get these controls to show up.

Ok, I'll check.

Is comskip supported? In the past I had trouble with comskip and TS files skipping over commercials correctly. The DVR-MS mux seemed to be spot on.

If comskip is supported, was the skipping algorithm changed? I'm guess it has to do with different frame size/rates in the TS files.

The database used by NPVR and GBPVR are entirely different, and they cant read each others database. You can import the GB-PVR recording list into NPVR. By setting the client machine's DataDirectory registry setting to a shared data directory on the server, you might be able to cobble together some basic file based client.

It'll try to process comskip files in the same way it did in the past. For the most part though, the .ts skipping in NPVR is very similar to how it was done in GBPVR, so probably not incredibly accurate for this purpose. Personally, I've not been using comskip for a couple of years, so this aspect hasnt been very high on my priority list.

Good to hear it is supported.

Any chance you might add a "slower skip mode"? This mode would actually read each frame and not estimate the length. I'd be willing to trade slower skips for accuracy. I'm guess I wouldn't even be able to notice any slow down. Or is this a limit of the decoders not providing a current file location?

Then again until I update to Vista or Win7, I'm probably out due to lack of FSE mode which I think is required for DXVA in WinXP.
