Any chance you might add a "slower skip mode"? This mode would actually read each frame and not estimate the length. I'd be willing to trade slower skips for accuracy. I'm guess I wouldn't even be able to notice any slow down. Or is this a limit of the decoders not providing a current file location?
Unfortunately there is no real way to know exactly where playback is at, so its all guess work. The only way to know for sure is look at every frame in the file, much like comskip does. There maybe some other tricks I can perform, when I find time to experiment in this area.

Quote:Then again until I update to Vista or Win7, I'm probably out due to lack of FSE mode which I think is required for DXVA in WinXP.
DXVA does not require FSE.

not the video mode, it's the decoders...
it won't use any of my decoders! keeps reverting to old software only decoders?!
changed merit of those and now it tries to load cyberlink + another h264 decoder for mpeg2 video..?
it won't use my ffdshow or ati decoders, even tho set to highest merit. and they work fine normally in any renderer..

yep, cofirmed, only uses highest default decoder, no matter what's set in settings...

You shouldnt need to tweak the merit. It should use the decoders you've selected in the settings screen. If its not, post the npvr.log showing me the unexpected behaviour occurring, and let me know what decoders you had selected.

NPVR doesnt rely on Windows to renderer audio/video streams, so it shouldnt be picking other decoders.

Back when I was running XP, I found a DirectX-10 for windows-xp, and it actually worked. At least with my ASUS/ATI graphic card. I don't have the link to it anymore, but it was a russian site and it was release 3 of DirectX for XP. It might be worth a try to google for it. (But remember backup Big Grin)

Does NPVR even support DX10 or DX11 ? I seem to remember having to add the Directx9 runtime to Vista.

That I can't answer, but I know that it was not possible to make the Terratec H.264 decoder use DXVA on XP until I installed the DX10.

Thinking of it, I don't think I installed DirectX-9 on any of my W7 computers, does it come with 9 or 10 or none by default? I have the W7 ultimate edition.

A couple of things I've noticed, but I'm not sure if they are known (is there a known missing features list somewhere?)
- My volume control on my Hauppauge remote doesn't work. I'm using the 45 button version.
- In the list view for the Videos, the meta data doesn't appear.

I miss the Channel Logos in my Guide, both my wife and I home in by sight when surfing. (Probably the Channel Logo tool I use needs to be updated for the new DB format by the Dev.)

An option for a larger font/pick a font size in the Guide would be welcome!

Things that worked well:
- My Hauppauge HD-PVR showed up flawlessly.
- My XMLTV file worked flawless. A *SLIGHT* tweak for new users: after setting things up I had to do a manual update to the guide to see my channels. I think the first time you select an XMLTV file that should happen when it builds the channel list too. I'm seasoned enough to know to do this so it wasn't a big deal.
- Channel Changing via exe, perfect.
- Live TV, which we do a lot of, seems smooth and the new "timeshift always" is hardly noticeable!

More as I explore, it's not going to be my day-to-day version yet... but for a rewrite, WELL DONE!

@reddwarf: it was probably using evr renderer behind your back...[no matter what was selected]

here's my log from when i was using it and had ati decoder and ffdshow audio selected in settings, but ffdshow video merit was highest..
it uses MPA audio dec. even tho ffdshow audio was selected also..
same with any renderer or codec selection..

What type of metadata was it? Was it in a file, or in database from the recordng info, or in the metadata.xml alternate data stream?

It does support channel logos, but the default skin doesnt show them. Hopefully there will be other skin options in the near future which make use of this feature.

Quote:An option for a larger font/pick a font size in the Guide would be welcome!
This will probably come down to a different skin too. Unfortunately its not straight forward to just make the font bigger without moving everything around and showing less rows of tv guide etc.

Ah. NPVR only deals with .ts files natively. Other file formats are at the mercy of Windows for choice of decoders. You'll find your chosen decoders are used when you play a .ts file.
