OK, have edl's, but there is no comskip with this build right? - so do I just put the gbpvr set of comskip.exe and ini files in C:\Program Files\NPVR, or in the users dir, so comskip works?

I'm not sure I understand the question.

It has built in logic to automatically skip ads during playback if comskip .edl files are present.

It doesnt have logic to run comskip.exe for you each time it makes a recording, but you can easily add this yourself by creating either a PostProcessing.bat or ParallelProcessing.bat that runs comskip. You can put the comskip.exe and ini files wherever you like, but your batch file that runs them will need to know where they are.

My Pinnacle 4000i dual dvb-s tuner still fails to scan like the previous version - but now there appears to be no way to bring it to life by using someone else's scancache file which worked well before.

If you want to do a scan, then post the npvr.log, I'll take a look.

Search facility to find stuff in the EPG for future recording.

I was missing the Search function too, but while we wait for Sub to implement it the corresponding function in NEWA (New Enhanced Web Admin) works very well, and is included in the build. Just connect your browser to http://localhost:8866

You can run comskip from ParallelProcessing.bat if you want to.

OK, thanks. As long as it produces skip-functionality during recording I have no problem using a .bat-file instead of internal logic.

are we able to change the aspect ratio using EVR in Win7? if not, I suppose I could drop down to XP and see if I can get tear-free video with the "new" software.

Can anyone confirm this as working or not? It was always one of the main things stopping me from moving to Windows 7 when I've half thought about doing it in the past.

Negative scaling wasn't it? You couldn't zoom the picture in a -x or -y direction, which you need for remove letterbox amongst others. I use it all the time (with XP) to zoom certain TV channels' logos off the screen, mainly the BBC breakfast one that my wife has managed to burn into our plasma over the years.

Ah. Sorry thats just a limitation of the EVR renderer, and just the same in NPVR.

Personally I've never found I've needed the negative scaling, but I can understand their are some situations that some people may need it (mainly with 4:3 displays).

yikes, I thought maybe there was a super-special way you could fit it in. since I seem to remember the WinTV 7 application being able to do so while using EVR.

Over a dozen or so of my channels are natively 4x3, but they come over a 16x9 signal (as the other channels are in widescreen 1080i).. so I end up with embedded black borders on the sides that my receiver forces through without a setting to just stretch the picture.

Performance in the beta looks great though! I'm sure as it transitions to release it will be more polished and ready for prime time. Great work!

Media portal seems to have over come the EVR Zooming issues your talking about. Being open source, it may be possible to figure out how they achieved it.

Such a zooming feature could also be useful for that super wide screen BS....(Seriously, who has a tv that wide?).
