Maybe a way to keep us happy (Big Grin) is to scan as you currently do, but only if the user wants to. A second method of populating channels could be to import an existing cache file that uses the same format as before. That way we can continue to use other tools like DVBDream to generate the tuning information *or* someone else's scan cache that has been exported from their DB (which would require a new option). Just a thought anyway...

Thanks for the info - I'll try changing the settings and doing a rescan later. I've never got round to implementing any level of sleep/hibernation - it's been on my to do list for ages... so don't know what does or doesn't wake after. Actually the skystar2 is crap and I need to replace it - there are certain frequencies that once tuned, when you go back to other frequencies it breaks and you get a nice green screen with bits of the picture present. I intend to replace it with another HVR-4000 when I have some spare cash. Although why I'd need 2 DVB-T tuners in Ireland I don't know, so a nova S2 would be a cheaper replacement...

The channel names having to match the EPG is a massive pain in the arse as you have BBC 1, BBC1, BBC ONE, BBC One and any other combination you care to mention. What I'd really like is to be able to name a channel what I like, map a tuning request with it and a corresponding channel from the EPG. With XMLTV and the RT this can be extremely painful to get them to match the scan names. And then when you want to use the EPG data from one channel (e.g. ITV 1 London) and map it to a completely different channel (e.g. ITV1 HD - or even the one that is just numbers in the scan) but call the channel something sensible in the channel line up, you cant. Well, I say that, I have no idea in NPVR as I don't get past the scan! :-)

Yes you do need the LNB settings to scan successfully - I have just done a scan as default (failed to find anything) and with the old values in (worked fine, sort of) lof1=9750 switch=11700 and lof2=10600.

I get a .net crash at the end of dvb-s scanning though and cannot continue with either ok or cancel.(System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at DShowHelper.DestroyGraph(IGraphBuilder* pGB)) Before posting logs, I'll go back and check for the patches.

See Thread http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...annel-scan I believe this is the same problem

If you're using xmltv files, I have a little Java program I wrote that will take a file and rewrite it to contain just the channels you want, along with whatever names you want. You just supply a text file as input with your choices (original ID -tab- new ID, one per line). Let me know if it's of interest and I can tidy it up and post it. I use it with the Freesat EPG xmltv file produced from DVBGuide to ensure everything matches up with the Freeview data GBPVR itself grabs.

I think (but don't have time yet to play) that xmltvgui can rename channel names and I suspect it may be easier changing them on the way into npvr rather than within npvr

Yep, I'm sure that will be the problem. The logs above all show the scan using the 11300/11300/11300 default LNB settings. These are common in New Zealand, but not used in the UK.

You guys need to enter the LNB settings that match the type of LNB you're using.

I changed the settings to those used by GBPVR (although I have never knowingly set these before, it just used to work, but that said I could have tweaked them a long time ago) and the Skystar2 now scans a shed load of channels then randomly crashes - so it's now doing what the HVR-4000 is. I'll try that card when the wife has stopped watching telly :-) I'll post the crash dump when she's done too.

Ok, post the crash dump and I'll take a look.
